What remained of the partially demolished Farmers Grain Cooperative Inc. elevators in western Ogden was brought down with a bang Saturday.

According to reporting at the time by the Standard-Examiner, the elevators were constructed in 1941 and originally featured 49 storage tanks that could accommodate 550,000 bushels of wheat, along with two 185-foot-tall headhouses. Later additions boosted storage capacity past 3 million bushels.

By 2003, operation of the elevators was assumed by the Scoular Co. In more recent years, it’s been operated as the Ogden Transload Facility, part of the Utah Central Railway network owned by Patriot Rail.

To clear way for new development on the site, demolition of the grain elevators began in February, with Saturday’s spectacle featuring two planned explosions to topple the old headhouses.

Starting at $4.32/week.
