Fire crews from Ogden City and Riverdale respond to a fire at the Alphia plant in Ogden on Friday, March 7, 2025.OGDEN — An early morning fire was quickly dealt with Friday.
According to a press release from Ogden City, crews were summoned to the Alphia pet food manufacturing facility in the 2900 block of Wall Avenue at 3:53 a.m. Friday.
“Fire and building staff acted swiftly to evacuate the structure, ensuring that all workers inside were accounted for,” the release said. “Firefighters worked diligently to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to other areas of the building. Thanks to their quick response, the fire was confined to the room of origin.”
The release also detailed the response by fire crews.
“A total of 24 firefighters from the Ogden City Fire Department and Riverdale City Fire Department responded to the scene, along with two ladder trucks, four engines, one ambulance, one paramedic truck, a deputy chief, and the battalion chief,” the release said. “The Ogden Fire Marshal’s Office is currently investigating the cause and origin of the fire. The building has been secured, and damages are estimated at approximately $100,000.”
Ogden Deputy Fire Chief Michael Slater told the Standard-Examiner that the investigation into a cause is ongoing, but they may be homing in on the origin.
“They were doing some work inside of the facility, so we’re looking at that as maybe the cause of the incident,” he said.
He also praised fire crews and staff alike.
“The firefighters did a fantastic job,” he said. “The facility staff did a fantastic job. They had a plan in place that insured everyone evacuated when the fire alarms went off and that they were accountable for all of the people.”
Slater said familiarity with the structure and having a plan in place went a long way in helping contain the blaze with no injury or loss of life.
“We appreciate the quick response from our firefighters,” he said. “They do a fantastic job. They pre-planned that building so they understand it’s a big, big structure and they understand the ins and outs because they’ve been in that building before.”
Crews were on scene for around three hours Friday morning.
