Arrests announced in Labor Day weekend shooting; victim dies of gunshot wounds

WEBER COUNTY — Authorities have announced two arrests in connection with Saturday’s shooting that has ultimately claimed a life.

Sgt. Paul Babinsky of the Weber County Sheriff’s Office said detectives arrested 18-year-old Michael Gaisbaur Jr. of Perry City on Wednesday on the following charges:

  • “Aggravated Murder (1st Degree Felony)
  • Eight Counts of Felony Discharge of a Firearm (3rd Degree Felony)
  • Obstruction of Justice (1st Degree Felony)”

Additionally, 19-year-old Mckinzi Sundquist of South Ogden was arrested on a single charge of obstruction of justice.

Both were booked into the Weber County Correctional Facility.

In a press release posted on the Weber County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page, the department announced that one person succumbed to their injuries on Thursday.

“On September 4, 2025, 22-year-old Jesus Cuadras Garcia, who had sustained a gunshot wound to the head, was removed from life support and tragically passed away,” the release read. “Our heartfelt condolences are with his family and friends during this difficult time.”

Babinsky clarified to the Standard-Examiner that Garcia was taken off life support on Wednesday and passed away on Thursday.

The release adds the two others are continuing to recover from injuries sustained in Saturday’s shooting.

“A second victim, an adult male who suffered a gunshot wound to the shoulder, and a 5-year-old girl who sustained gunshot injuries to her leg and hip, are both recovering from their injuries,” the release read. “We wish them a full and speedy recovery.”

According to the release, the Weber County Sheriff’s Department worked with the Ogden City Police Department and the Weber/Morgan Homicide Task Force to interview witnesses and find those responsible.

The release also notes that the case remains open and under investigation.

“Detectives continue to interview witnesses and pursue leads to identify additional suspects involved,” the release read. “Anyone with information is asked to contact the Weber County Area Dispatch at 801-395-8221 and reference case number 25WC30717.”
