According to a press release from the Utah Department of Transportation, part of Emigration Trail will have to close for the time being to help facilitate the roadway’s construction.

“As of Thursday, August 13, the Emigration Trail between 700 South and 300 North is now closed to the public,” the release said. “Portions of the trail are anticipated to reopen by the end of November, though schedules may be adjusted based on construction progress and weather conditions.”

According to the release, the closure is necessary to facilitate:

• Utility installation and relocation work
• Increased truck hauling operations
• Pile driving activities
• Construction of the new trail alignment

The release further adds that pile-driving is underway on the project.

“Pile driving operations continue near SR-193 and 700 South in Syracuse,” the release said. “Work is taking place Monday through Friday during daytime hours. The current schedule includes work at the SR-193 location followed by the 700 South location. Please expect intermittent construction noise in these areas.”

UDOT Region 1 Senior Communication Manager Mitch Shaw told the Standard-Examiner in July about the overall project.

“This project will include an interchange at SR-193 with on and off ramps,” he said. “Bridges will be built for the new road over 300 North, 800 North and 1300 North, and the project will end at an at-grade intersection at 1800 North.”

He added that there will be warning of any major disruptions as construction gets underway.

“Residents in the area may notice increased construction activity, equipment, and crews in the area as work ramps up over the coming weeks,” he said. “Construction is generally scheduled Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Weekend work may occur as needed. If nighttime work becomes necessary, nearby residents will be notified in advance.”

Construction on the current SR-177 extension project is expected to finish in 2028.
