OGDEN — One person was killed following a fire in Ogden on Friday morning.

According to a press release from the Ogden City Fire Department, crews were summoned to a report of a structure fire in the 600 block of E 3rd Street around 12:09 a.m. Friday.

“Residents of the home were being evacuated by a neighbor prior to the arrival of responding fire crews. Upon arrival, firefighters were advised that one resident remained unaccounted for,” the release said. “Firefighters executed an immediate primary search and rapid interior attack of the home. Interior search crews quickly located the missing resident and removed them from the structure. Despite those efforts, the resident succumbed to injuries sustained in the fire. Four additional family members of the home were transported to a local hospital in stable condition with smoke-related injuries. The fire was contained within approximately one hour and fully extinguished shortly thereafter.”

The release adds that the cause remains under investigation at this time and is being investigated by both the Ogden City Fire Department’s investigation team and the Ogden City Police Department. Additionally, the release said that four people have been displaced and the American Red Cross is assisting. An estimated $300,000 in damages was done and the structure is considered uninhabitable until repairs can be completed.

“We are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of life, and our thoughts are with the family during this challenging time,” the release said. “We appreciate the coordinated response of all agencies involved in helping protect our community.”

The North View Fire District also assisted in the response Friday morning.
