LAYTON — After just over a decade of service in Davis County, Mimi’s Cafe is closing its rustic-setting doors in Layton, according to a restaurant official.

The restaurant chain will continue to operate at its Sandy, Murray and Orem locations.

The last day of business for the Layton restaurant, part of the city’s famed “restaurant row,” was Monday, said a restaurant staffer who wished not to be identified.

With the closure, between 25 to 30 jobs could be lost, said the source. Relocation job opportunities are being extended to some of the workers by the other restaurants in the chain.

The restaurant is closing due to economic factors stemming from a competitive Layton restaurant market, the source said.

“I always liked their food,” Layton Mayor Bob Stevenson said of Mimi’s Cafe, surprised by the closing.

“It is always sad when we see a quality business leave the community,” he said of the restaurant located at 874 W. Antelope Drive.

Stevenson said he recognizes the city’s restaurant market is a competitive market, making it a destination location for individuals and families to dine out.

The city through its economic development specialist, Kent Andersen, will work with the land owner in getting the building another tenant as quickly as possible, Stevenson said.

Mimi’s Cafe, a national chain that serves a menu of American and French food, over the years has received favorable food reviews on Google.
