Ogden’s Own unveils Five Husbands vodka for Utah Pride Festival

By Tim Vandenack standard-Examiner - | May 2, 2019

OGDEN — Ogden’s Own has introduced a limited-edition product in connection with the Utah Pride Festival, to be held next month in Salt Lake City — Five Husbands vodka.

A shipment of Five Husbands, a relabeled version of the company’s popular Five Wives vodka brand, has been sent to the Utah Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control, according to a Facebook post on Thursday from the producer, Ogden’s Own Distillery. It’s scheduled to hit the shelves at Ogden Own’s, located at 3075 Grant Ave. in Ogden, Tuesday, and should reach the shelves of Utah’s state liquor stores next week as well.

“The message is, we’ve always been a very strong supporter of the LGBTQ community,” said Steve Conlin, managing partner of Ogden’s Own. The limited run of Five Husbands, with labels depicting five shirtless men holding roosters at their midsections, aims to reinforce that.

The Five Husbands name is a variation on the Five Wives brand, which features labels depicting five women holding cats at their midsections. “Celebrate diversity,” reads the Five Husbands label, also featuring a rainbow color pattern.

The Utah Pride Festival, organized by the Utah Pride Center, is set for June 1 and 2 and is meant as a celebration of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transexual and queer community. Ogden’s Own is a sponsor of the event.

Conlin said Ogden’s Own’s initial plans called for production of 4,300 bottles of Five Husbands. After word about Five Husbands started spreading, Conlin said he began receiving inquiries from around the country about the product. Now he’s considering doing another run.

“It’s been a little bit crazy,” Conlin said.

The Five Husbands vodka is the same as the Five Wives vodka.
