Jack in the Box opened an Ogden site on Monday, Aug. 21, 2023.

OGDEN — Jack has come to Ogden.

A new Jack in the Box location at 4816 Harrison Blvd. opened this week with another coming to Syracuse. A worker distributing Jack in the Box fliers outside the Ogden location on Tuesday said the fast-food eatery had opened its doors on Monday.

A small line of autos spilled just beyond the Jack in the Box parking lot into Harrison Boulevard early Tuesday morning. The worker reported there hadn’t yet been an onslaught of fans, as occurred last June when a new Salt Lake City location opened, according to the Salt Lake Tribune, but social media posts by local residents noted an hour or so wait Monday.

Still, news last November that the restaurant was coming generated a strong response from Standard-Examiner readers. The Ogden location has walk-up and drive-thru service, but no indoor seating.

No specific word on when the Syracuse location at 1726 Bluff Ridge Drive is to open. The Jack in the Box website puts the opening at sometime in September while the food company’s press people didn’t immediately respond to a Standard-Examiner inquiry seeking comment.

Either way, Jack in the Box — which seems to have a passionate following of aficionados — is slowly making inroads into Utah.

With the new Ogden and Salt Lake City locations, Jack in the Box now has five Utah sites, also factoring outlets in Washington, St. George and Cedar City. Aside from the Syracuse location, another Jack in the Box is coming to 5456 S. 5600 West in Salt Lake City, according to the restaurant’s website, which would boost the Utah count to seven.

According to QSR, a trade publication, the company’s goal is to have 10 locations in the Salt Lake City area by the end of 2024. Parent company Jack in the Box Inc. is based in San Diego and the chain has around 2,200 restaurants in 21 states and Guam, according to its website.

“With Salt Lake City being a combined market, (CEO Darin) Harris said ‘all of our resources and efforts’ are being activated in the hopes of making it the strongest new market opening in the chain’s history,” QSR reported.
