OGDEN — The Ogden-Weber Chamber of Commerce recognized achievements within the local business community over the past year and beyond with its Annual Gala at the Ogden Eccles Conference Center and Peery’s Egyptian Theater Wednesday night.
The black-tie affair, which featured performances by W!M and Vocalocity and was preceded by a reception in the conference center lobby, saw several organizations and individuals receive awards. Organizational milestones and chamber sponsors were also recognized.
Ogden Regional Medical Center Communications and Community Engagement Director Abby Monroe was honored as Chairperson of the Year. Monroe has served on boards for the Junior League of Ogden, Ogden-Weber Chamber Women in Business and Egyptian Theater Foundation.
Soul Beautiful Salon’s Tina Calandra was recognized as Volunteer of the Year. She serves on the Small Business Council and has held positions on the Chamber Executive Board and Women in Business committee.
United Way of Northern Utah Events Manager Taylor Campbell was honored as the Young Professional of the Year. She serves on the Women Empowered committee.
Large Business of the Year honors went to Nordic Valley Ski Resort, while MacKenzie Exhibit — which specializes in custom-designed exhibits & trade show displays — was named Small Business of the Year. Phlattline Entertainment — a professional and organizational development company — and Ogden Nature Center were honored as Start-Up of the Year and Nonprofit of the Year, respectively.
This year’s Sue Westenskow Education Award was presented to George and Mary Hall for their decades of support for the Ogden and Weber school foundations. The award is given annually to individuals or organizations that “used their influence to enrich experiences outside the traditional school setting and promote lifelong learners reaching across both school districts.”
Finally, Robert (Bob) and Marcia Harris were inducted to the Chamber’s Wall of Fame.
The Harris family came to Utah more than three decades ago when Bob Harris landed a job with Thiokol. He would serve as vice president and general counsel for the company until his 1997 retirement; he was also an executive with other large corporations. He was later a longtime judge in Utah’s state court system and has been active in the Ogden community through innumerable leadership positions and volunteer efforts.
Marcia Harris, meanwhile, has worked with Planned Parenthood, the League of Women Voters, Hospice of Northern Utah, Catholic Community Services, the Weber County Library and more.
