Shenanigans made Powder Mountain Town

By Standard-Examiner Staff - | Sep 25, 2009

In the Sept. 1 news article, “Mayhem or mountain fun,” Ogden Valley resident Richard Schneider made the comment that anti-Powder Mountain people are a vocal minority. Hasn’t Mr. Schneider noticed the “Stop Powder Mountain Town” signs all over the valley? ?As for anti-Powder Mountain people, nothing could be further from the truth. There are no anti-Powder Mountain people. There is, however, a large contingent of concerned valley residents that are against the proposed Powder Mountain Town and the ill-conceived development brought about by immoral and unethical shenanigans.?The Powder Mountain Town developers forced citizens into its boundaries without a vote and even without a majority of them signing the petition. ?Under the repealed Utah legislative bill, the largest land (in area) owners make the decision to form a town, not the majority of the people. The citizens of this proposed town were forced into a new taxing entity without a vote. ?These forced citizens are not permitted (by the repealed bill) to vote for their officials. Wasn’t there a “tea party” about taxation without representation??Kudos to the residents of Cache Valley (where a majority of the resort lies) who said no to a road through their valley to the proposed town/development. They will get the tax revenue without any of the cost or environmental damage.?
