Several new mayors are heading to office in Davis County, according to preliminary vote totals in municipal voting released Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2021. They include, clockwise from top left, Tami Tran in Kaysville, Kendalyn Harris in Bountiful, Brian Horrocks in North Salt Lake, Ryan Westergard in Woods Cross, Brett Anderson in Farmington and Dave Maughan in Syracuse. Vote figures released Tuesday aren't yet official and more ballots are to be added to those preliminary figures.

FARMINGTON — As many as nine new mayors will be taking over across Davis County, representing more than half the leadership of the county’s 15 cities, according to preliminary totals from municipal voting.

Among the new leaders are Tami Tran in Kaysville, a City Council member headed to victory over Jay Welk. Katie Witt, the incumbent Kaysville mayor, didn’t seek reelection.

In Bountiful, Kendalyn Harris, a member of the City Council, had a wide lead over Randy Lewis, the incumbent, according to the unofficial figures, to be updated with totals from late-arriving ballots later in the week.

New leadership is also in the offing in South Weber and West Point, where the incumbent mayors didn’t run.

Here’s a rundown of mayoral results so far across Davis County:

Kaysville: Tran had garnered 3,920 votes to 2,663 for Welk, putting her on the path to the mayoral post.

Kaysville made it into the spotlight under Witt last year over a proposed music concert she promoted amid the COVID-19 pandemic that prompted criticism from some, worried such an event could cause the virus to spread. Tran seemingly alluded to such instances in her campaign material, saying she’d work “in the best interest” of the city.

“During the last several years, we’ve experienced the good, bad and ugly. We’ve seen self-interest prioritized over what’s good and right for us locally and nationally in politics,” reads Tran’s campaign website.

The controversial concert plans never materialized in Kaysville.

West Point: The two mayoral hopefuls in West Point were neck and neck, with Brian Vincent holding a narrow lead over Gary Petersen, 1,052-1,034 votes.

Either way, West Point will get a new mayor. Incumbent Erik Craythorne didn’t seek reelection.

Vincent is a member of the West Point Planning Commission and Petersen belongs to the West Point City Council.

Clinton: In another relatively close race, challenger Brandon Stanger led L. Mitch Adams, the incumbent Clinton mayor, 1,716-1,679 votes. Stanger is a business owner and prior Clinton Planning Commission member.

Syracuse: Challenger Dave Maughan held a solid lead over incumbent Michael Gailey, 2,456 votes to 2,124. Maughan is a member of the Syracuse City Council.

South Weber: Rod Westbroek held a sizable lead over Wayne Winson, a member of the South Weber City Council, 1,031 votes to 809.

Incumbent Mayor Jo Sjoblom didn’t run again.

Bountiful: Harris had a vote advantage of nearly two-to-one over Lewis, the incumbent mayor, 7,554 votes to 3,826.

Farmington: Brett Anderson held a solid lead over Rebecca Wayment, 2,508 votes to 1,611, and was headed to the mayor’s seat. Both are members of the Farmington City Council.

Incumbent Jim Talbot didn’t run.

North Salt Lake: Brian Horrocks, a member of the City Council, held a wide lead over Gary Widders, 2,135 votes to 526.

Len Arave, the incumbent mayor, didn’t run for reelection.

Woods Cross: Ryan Westergard, a member of the Woods Cross City Council, was the sole mayoral hopeful in the city.

He had 1,283 votes and will take over from Mayor Rick Earnshaw, who didn’t run again.

In three other cities, incumbents faced challengers but held solid leads and were on their way to reelection — Clark Wilkinson in Centerville, John Pohlman in Fruit Heights and Howard Madsen in Sunset.

Layton Mayor Joy Petro, Clearfield Mayor Mark Shepherd and West Bountiful Mayor Kenneth Romney all ran unopposed this cycle.
