Ben Carson, the secretary of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development under President Donald Trump, will speak in Ogden on Saturday, Oct. 22, 2022. The Weber County Republican Party is sponsoring the visit.

OGDEN — Tickets remain for Saturday’s presentation here by Ben Carson, the former head of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development under President Donald Trump.

Moreover, those interested in meeting Republican hopefuls for office — including U.S. Sen. Mike Lee and U.S. Reps. Chris Stewart, Blake Moore and Burgess Owens — will have a chance to do so before Carson speaks.

Carson, invited by the Weber County Republican Party, is to speak starting at 7 p.m Saturday at Ogden High School, 2828 Harrison Blvd. His presentation is titled “One Nation: What we can all do to save America’s future,” and some preferred and general admission tickets, costing $50 and $30 respectively, remain, according to Jake Sawyer, chairperson of the party.

The purpose of Carson’s presentation, in part, is to get GOPers excited and charged up for the elections, which culminate on Nov. 8, according to Sawyer. Ahead of his talk, from 6-7 p.m. at the high school, GOP candidates for office have been invited to set up booths for a meet-the-candidate forum, free and open to the public.

Lee, Stewart, Moore and Owens are among the expected candidates, along with others running for state and local office.

Lee faces a challenge from independent candidate Evan McMullin. Stewart, the 2nd District representative, faces challenges from Democrat Nick Mitchell, United Utah Party hopeful Jay MacFarland and Cassie Easley of the Constitution Party. Moore faces a challenge from Democrat Rick Jones while Owens faces challenges from January Walker of the United Utah Party and Democrat Darlene McDonald.

More information on Carson’s planned appearance is on the Republican Party website, webergop.org. He had originally been scheduled to speak at the Dee Events Center on the Weber State University campus but the venue was moved to Ogden High School to save on costs, according to Sawyer.
