Weber County Democrats elect party leadership
OGDEN — Weber County Democrats have picked party leadership for the next two years.
The Weber County Democratic Party held its convention on Saturday, picking Kate Nielsen, who had been the interim chairperson, to become the duly elected chair for a two-year term. The meeting was held at DaVinci Academy in Ogden.
Annette Mifflin was picked to serve as vice chairperson, Chelsea Te’o will be secretary and Joshua Hoggan — who had been secretary — was voted in as treasurer. Jeremy Shinoda, who was treasurer, didn’t run again. Nielsen previously served as vice chairperson but was elevated to interim chair after Carly Cassidy stepped down as chair last January.
Nielsen said party reps also created three new groups to represent the varied interests of party members — labor, veterans and health care caucuses. A caucus focused on women’s issues already exists.
Nielsen said that a priority as chairperson would be bolstering the fortunes of the Democratic Party, which typically plays second fiddle to Republicans.
Those elected serve two-year terms.
