WEST HAVEN — The Weber County Republican Party leadership will remain largely the same, with the addition of a new treasurer.

County GOPers held their organizing convention on Saturday, electing Jake Sawyer to a second two-year term as party chairperson. Two others were also picked to continue in their posts — Jackson Wing, the party vice chairperson, and Miranda Rizzi, the secretary. Johnny Ferry was picked as treasurer to replace Chuck Ulrich. Ulrich did not seek the office again.

The four were the only candidates for the posts and won election by acclamation of the GOP delegates present. The convention was held at Rocky Mountain Junior High School in West Haven.

Sawyer said continued fundraising and more active involvement in city races this year are among the goals he’ll pursue. Numerous City Council seats and two mayoral posts are on the ballot in Weber County this year.

“We’ve got bigger fundraising goals. We want to reach more of the base,” Sawyer said Monday. The party has raised more than $126,000 in the past two years.

He said the party will likely host meet-the-candidate events in conjunction with city races all across Weber County later this year as GOPers up their involvement in the contests.

Bruce Haynes was picked Saturday by GOPers to a new seat Weber County earned on the Utah Republican Party Central Committee. A proposed resolution at the convention “opposing subversion of water rights” failed.
