Nominees picked to replace retiring Judge David Connors

SALT LAKE CITY – The 2nd District Judicial Nominating Commission has selected nominees for a vacancy to be created by the retirement of Judge David Connors next March.

The nominees are Cara Baldwin, general counsel, R-Zero Systems Inc.; Catherine Conklin, commissioner, 2nd District Court; Joseph Kjar, attorney, Fabian VanCott; Bryan Memmott, judge of the Plain City, Woods Cross, South Ogden and South Weber justice courts; and Jason Nelson, deputy Davis County Attorney.

The 2nd District Court covers courts in Weber, Davis and Morgan counties. Connors has been serving at the Farmington courthouse.

Written comments can be submitted to the 2nd District Judicial Nominating Commission at judicialvacancies@utah.gov or Commission on Criminal and Juvenile Justice, P.O. Box 142330, Salt Lake City, UT 84114-2330. The deadline for written comments is Dec. 19 at noon. The commission may request further information or conduct an investigation of the nominees after reviewing public comments.

After the public comment period, the names will be sent to Gov. Spencer Cox, who will have 30 days to make an appointment. Cox’s appointee is subject to confirmation by the Utah Senate.
