SOUTH OGDEN — South Ogden City has urged residents to limit water use while the Weber Basin Water Conservancy District fixes a broken main.

City officials issued an emergency notice Wednesday night, advising residents to take showers rather than baths and not to run dishwashers or do laundry until the break is repaired. A social media post said the repair was expected to take most of Thursday.

Scott Paxman, incoming general manager of Weber Basin, said a 36-inch drinking water pipeline failed at 800 East and 4800 South in South Ogden.

He said the line supplies water to South Ogden and other cities, but he said the municipalities all have their own supplies, so there should be no shortage worries, especially if the break was fixed Thursday as expected.

Paxman said crews were not sure what caused the line to fail.
