A small aircraft crashed into the ice at Pineview Reservoir on Friday, Jan. 26, 2024. A pilot and passenger both escaped uninjured.

HUNTSVILLE — No injuries were reported following the crash of a small aircraft into Pineview Reservoir on Friday.

According to a Facebook post by the Weber Fire District, authorities received calls around 12:30 p.m. Friday that a small plane was down on the ice on Pineview Reservoir.

“Initial reports indicate that multiple callers reported a plane landing on the ice,” the post said. “Two occupants exited the plane and reached nearby emergency crews, confirming they were the only occupants. Fortunately, they were uninjured but were treated for cold exposure.”

Photos posted by the Weber Fire District and Weber County Sheriff’s Office showed the plane had become partially submerged since landing, with the wings being held up by the surrounding ice and the tail section still above water.

Lt. Colby Ryan told the Standard-Examiner that the sheriff’s office’s part of the investigation is over, though he was unsure of the plane’s exact make or model.

“Now it’s in the hands of the (Federal Aviation Administration),” he said. “We’re just waiting for the FAA to give us the go-ahead to get the plane removed. As soon as their investigation is done, we’ll get the plane out of the water.”

Information on the cause of the crash is unknown at this time. As of late Friday afternoon, a preliminary accident/incident report had not been posted on the FAA’s Aviation Safety Information Analysis and Sharing page, though the site notes these reports can take a couple of days to be added.

Due to the location of the crash on Pineview Reservoir, the U.S. Forest Service also is included in the investigation, according to the Weber County Sheriff’s Office.
