WEST HAVEN — Four people were found dead in a vehicle Tuesday night in West Haven, according to the Weber County Sheriff’s Office.

At approximately 9:47 p.m. Tuesday, Weber Area Dispatch received a call from a family member reporting the discovery of their deceased relatives at a residence near 1800 S. Prevedel Drive in West Haven, per a release.

It was noted that arriving deputies located the foursome — an adult woman and three children — in the vehicle and confirmed on the scene that they “were deceased and obviously beyond help.”

There was evidence of “gunshot trauma,” according to the release, but the cause of their deaths and the circumstances that led to them remain under investigation.

A 32-year-old woman, a 4-year-old boy, a 2-year-old girl and a 1-year-old girl were dead, Weber County Sheriff’s Sgt. Sean Endsley told KSL-TV. Their names were not made public.

The Weber Country Sheriff’s Office, Weber/Morgan Homicide Task Force, Weber-Metro CSI and “other resources” are investigating the deaths.

“Our hearts go out to the families of the deceased. We are proud of and thankful for the deputies who responded to this call, and all the investigators working to find answers to the many questions that remain,” the release stated.

Neighbor Darren King told the Standard-Examiner that he interacted with the victims on “a lot of occasions” and described the children as “the joy of the neighborhood.” He added that he has known the family since moving in just over three years ago and wasn’t aware of any issues.

“The (woman), she recently — like last year — she had moved out of the home. It was her parents’ home,” King said. “About a month ago, she moved back home and brought the kids back home with her.”

Added King: “You hear about this stuff, but you never imagine it hitting so close to home, on top of it being such young victims. To me, it’s just completely senseless.”

Authorities indicated they don’t believe there’s evidence suggestive of any ongoing or related threat to public safety.

The sheriff’s office is asking anyone with information regarding the incident to contact Weber Area Dispatch at 801-395-8221.
