Shooting and death at jail under investigation by Weber County Sheriff’s Office

A shooting in unincorporated Weber County and a death at the Weber County Jail are two incidents from the weekend that the Weber County Sheriff’s Office is investigating.
According to a press release from Sergeant Paul Babinsky of the Weber County Sheriff’s Office, the shooting occurred early Sunday morning at a large gathering near 9300 West 900 South, critically injuring a male in his 20s. Two others — a 5-year-old girl and another male — were also taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

“At approximately 01:00 am on August 31, 2025, Weber Area Dispatch received a 911 call of an adult male that had been shot in the area of 9300 W 900 S, Unincorporated Weber County. As deputies were enroute additional calls came into dispatch of possibly other victims. When deputies arrived, they found a large gathering and multiple vehicles leaving the area.
“A male in his early 20s was found to be in critical condition from a gunshot wound to the head and was taken to the hospital by medial helicopter. A 5-year-old female sustained a gunshot wound to her leg/hip and was taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. A second male had been shot in the shoulder and was also transported by ambulance to an area hospital with not life-threatening injuries.
“Our detectives are currently speaking to all the witnesses that were in the area and are working to identify a suspect.
This remains an active and ongoing investigation. No further information will be given at this time.

The other incident took place on Friday evening, as reported in a release from Lt. Cameron McCarty, Operations Bureau Commander at the Weber County Sheriff’s Office.
The report said an individual who was in custody and housed in the medical area of the facility. The person experienced a medical emergency and, despite immediate life-saving measures being initiated, died later that evening.

“On August 29, 2025, an individual in the custody of the Weber County Jail passed away.
“This individual was in the custody of the jail for a short period and was housed in the medical area.
“At approximately 8:45 PM, the individual experienced a medical emergency. Responding Weber County Deputies, as well as medical staff, immediately began life-saving measures and summoned EMS. Life-saving measures continued until EMS arrived on scene and took over.
“The individual was transported to the hospital, where they were later pronounced deceased.
“The death is currently under investigation by the Weber County attorney’s office in accordance with the Sheriff’s Office policy; no further details will be released at this time.
“We offer our condolences to the family of the deceased. These incidents are difficult for all those involved, and we will work to provide resources for staff members and others affected by this incident. We ask for patience as this case is investigated.
“We would like to thank the deputies, medical staff, and EMS personnel who provided care for this individual, as well as other staff members who assisted in alternate areas of the facility to ensure the continuation of services to the other incarcerated individuals at the Weber County Jail.”
