Ogden Arts logoOGDEN — The November First Friday Art Stroll is set to highlight a new sculpture celebrating the city’s history.
According to a press release from Ogden City Arts, this week’s First Friday Art Stroll — set for Friday from 6-9 p.m. — will feature the unveiling of a new sculpture called “On Solid Ground” across 25th Street from The Monarch.
“In 2021, construction crews uncovered a remarkable piece of Ogden’s past: original rails from the city’s historic streetcar system, which once connected neighborhoods and powered progress from 1900 to 1936,” the release said. “Rather than covering this discovery back up, a few community members chose to celebrate it. Those very rails, unearthed just a few feet from where they now stand, became the foundation of On Solid Ground.”
The release adds that the sculpture was created by local artists Samantha Killinen and Hannah Scalambrino, working together as the IHTS Collective.
“The sculpture honors Ogden’s heritage while looking toward its future,” the release said. “The design draws inspiration from the city’s distinctive architecture, the strength of the surrounding mountains, and the industrious honeybee, a nod to the hardworking people who make Ogden such a vibrant place to live, work, and create. Part of the city’s ongoing effort to infuse art into public spaces, On Solid Ground adds to the growing collection of works within the Nine Rails Creative District, where creativity drives community connection. The installation stands as both a tribute and a time capsule, reminding us that even as Ogden evolves, its foundation remains, quite literally, on solid ground.”
