Capt. Tim Scott conducts a press briefing following the fatal shooting of a 16-year-old male in Ogden on Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2025.OGDEN — A 16-year-old juvenile male was fatally shot Tuesday afternoon in Ogden.
Capt. Tim Scott of the Ogden City Police Department said during a press briefing that the call came in around 2:45 p.m. Tuesday afternoon.
“What we know at this time is that a 16-year-old male was shot and killed at the location of 5th (Street) and Gramercy Avenue in Ogden, Utah,” he said. “The victim was then taken to Ben Lomond High School where that victim was treated by school staff and a school resource officer who were still on scene from that school day.”
According to a press release sent out by Ogden School District communications specialist Maykel Valladares, the shooting occurred after the school day ended.
“We have confirmed reports that there was an apparent shooting this afternoon in the vicinity of 7th Street and Monroe Blvd.,” she said. “The target of the shooting went to the Ben Lomond High School campus seeking help at approximately 2:50 p.m. Police are on the scene and investigating. This happened after students had been released from school for the day at 2:35 p.m.. There is not believed to be an active threat to students or the community at this time.”
Scott said that the department’s Homicide Task Force and major crimes detectives are involved in the investigation and that all available resources are being utilized to find a suspect.
“Although we have every resource available and we’re tracking down every lead that is coming in right now, we do not have a suspect in custody for this shooting,” he said. “We’re asking the public’s help.”
Anyone in the area with doorbell cameras, security cameras or any other possible information is asked to contact Weber County dispatch at 801-395-8221.
“We are in the very preliminary stages of this investigation,” Scott said.
He said there is no evidence that Tuesday’s incident has any connection to last week’s bomb threat at Ben Lomond High School.
“This is not connected in any way,” he said. “We see no connection to last week’s event at Ben Lomond High School other than the fact that this event occurred near Ben Lomond High School and the victim was taken to Ben Lomond High School for his initial first-aid treatment.”
No further information was released Tuesday evening.
Valladares added that other area schools took certain precautions following this incident but had since released students.
“As a precaution, Highland Junior High School initiated a ‘secure’ protocol. During a secure protocol, all students are kept inside the school building,” she said. “Exterior doors are locked. No one is allowed in or out of the building. Police verified the school was safe and ended the secure status and students were released to go home at approximately 3:10 p.m. under the supervision of Ogden Police.
“East Ridge Elementary had released for the day at 2:30 p.m. The school also initiated a secure status as a precaution because some employees and students were still in the building.”
Extracurricular activities at Ben Lomond High School were cancelled for the remainder of Tuesday.
Jer Bates, director of communications with the Ogden School District, told the Standard-Examiner that Ben Lomond High School and other area schools will have classes as normal on Wednesday.
“School will proceed as scheduled tomorrow,” he said. “We feel it is important that we provide a safe place for our students to process their emotions during this difficult time. We will have the district crisis response team present to ensure every student who needs to talk will have someone available.”
