Two days into the filing window to apply for the midterm vacancy on the Ogden City Council, two candidates have submitted conflict of interest and financial disclosures, according to Ogden City’s website.

The two are Jeremy Peterson, former four-term House representative for District 9, and Arlene Anderson, current Ogden School District board member.

Peterson first won in 2010, defeating then-incumbent Neil Hansen, according to weberelections.gov. Peterson lost to Hansen in 2008. Peterson then defeated Hansen again in 2012, Steve Olsen in 2014 and Kathie Darby in 2016.

According to ballotpedia.com, he did not file to run for reelection in 2018.

According to weberelections.gov, Anderson first won her spot on the Ogden School District board in 2020, defeating previous Board President Don Belnap by 21 votes, 1,399 to 1,378. She then won reelection unopposed in 2024.

The vacancy Peterson and Anderson have submitted filing documents for is At Large Seat C. The opening is the result of the pending resignation of current council member Shaun Myers, who is leaving to be in the presidency of the Ogden temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

The application window started Monday and runs through 5 p.m. July 15.

Verified applicants will be interviewed during a public council meeting at 5 p.m. July 21, and the appointed candidate will take office Aug. 1. Myers’ resignation is effective July 31. The appointed council member will complete Myers’ term, which ends January 2028.

Those interested must submit a resume, a letter of interest, a conflict-of-interest disclosure form and a campaign finance form in person to the Ogden City recorder, located on the second floor of the Municipal Building, 2549 Washington Blvd.
