Letter: Politicians with integrity – to each their own

Aug 20, 2024

I apologize if my letter concerning having integrity stepped on anyone’s toes. I don’t presume to judge anyone. If a person honestly believes that “Thou shalt not commit adultery.. but if you do, we’ll ignore it and forgive you, no matter how many times you do it, even if you publicly brag about it”, that’s his or her business. But I do have to make a judgement about which Presidential candidate best represents my personal values and my hopes for the type of people I want Americans to be.

Fortunately, I don’t have to make moral judgements on Donald Trump because our American society has already made those judgements for me many times: Trump University — guilty of fraud. Trump associates Rudy Giuliani, Steve Bannon, Michael Cohen, Paul Manafort, Fox News — all found guilty of lying in various forms like defamation, tax fraud, and lying. The list goes on and on with more Trump associates indicted or found guilty of lying in a variety of states by juries of honest, decent people just like you and me. I trust them.

Donald Trump himself found guilty of sexual assault and defamation, guilty of 34 felonies for committing fraud, and under indictment for fraud by a grand jury in Georgia, and charged with fraud in Nevada and Pennsylvania. He continues to lie about the 2020 election even after over 60 court cases failed to find a shred of evidence to support his claims.

Now if that sounds like a man you want your sons and daughters to emulate; if Trump and these friends represent the values you want your children to believe in, vote your conscience. I know I will.
