Bountiful police investigate fatal high-speed crash

BOUNTIFUL — Police said Monday they are investigating a high-speed crash that resulted in the death of a driver.

Bountiful Assistant Police Chief Dave Edwards said investigators are still trying to unravel the incident, which occurred at about 9:15 p.m. Friday.

A Woods Cross Police Department officer spotted a red car going “close to 100 mph” without headlights on, according to a social media news release by the Woods Cross agency. The car hit a curb, lost a rear tire and the driver lost control.

The red car then collided with a southbound vehicle at 620 S. 500 West. The 18-year-old man who was driving the red car died at a hospital, the release said. The other driver was hospitalized with serious injuries and was in stable condition.

Edwards said he did not have the identity of the fatality victim.
