OGDEN — Ogden police on Monday arrested a Clearfield man on suspicion of attempted murder for allegedly trying to run down his ex-girlfriend with his car.

Ogden officers had obtained an arrest warrant for James Junior Carter, 52, during their investigation of the incident Dec. 10 last year at the woman’s Ogden apartment.

A police probable cause statement said officers were called to a residence where Carter allegedly tried several times to hit the woman with his car. She was able to dodge and run away.

Carter allegedly crashed into the apartment building and a parked car during the incident and he left before police arrived. He also ran over a scooter used by the woman’s son, according to charging documents.

The woman told police she had great fear for her safety and the safety of her child. Carter was subject to a protective order due to a domestic incident earlier in 2022, according to court records.

Carter was ordered held without bail in the Weber County Jail. The Weber County Attorney’s Office on Jan. 30 charged Carter with first-degree felony attempted murder, third-degree felony domestic violence in the presence of a child, and class A misdemeanor counts of violation of a protective order and possession of a dangerous weapon by a restricted person.
