OGDEN — An individual in the custody of the Weber County Jail has died, apparently of natural causes.

The inmate, who has not been identified, suffered a “medical episode” on June 28 while actually being held at a long-term health care facility and was then taken to a hospital, according to a statement from the Weber County Jail. The individual died that afternoon and, as a matter of protocol, the incident is being investigated.

It’s the second reported death of an inmate at the jail so far this year. An inmate died earlier this year in the jail of suicide, officials suspect.

Lt. Joshua Marigoni said Monday that last week’s death stemmed from “natural causes.”

“We offer our condolences to the family of the deceased,” reads a statement issued by the jail. “These incidents are difficult for all of those involved and we will be working to provide resources for staff members and inmates involved in this incident.”
