Arrest made after patron shot at Ogden bar Friday night
OGDEN — A man was booked into the Weber County Jail over the weekend in connection with a shooting that occurred at a bar Friday evening.
According to an affidavit of probable cause, 40-year-old Carlos Mendez was arrested Saturday on suspicion of firing two rounds into the bar, which wasn’t named, striking a male patron in the process.
Mendez allegedly entered the bar at around 9 p.m. Friday, the arrest document stated. He later reportedly was seen on camera “sitting at the bar and staring at another male.”
Per the affidavit, he then exited the building and allegedly asked staff to “turn off cameras.” Mendez reportedly remained outside for a time while “looking through the front window into the bar.”
Moments later, a suspect opened a back door and fired two rounds into the establishment, striking the same person that Mendez reportedly was seen staring at in the business’s video footage.
It was noted in the arrest document that the suspect reportedly ran out of the back of the bar and broke through a rear wooden fence. Two .22-caliber shell casings later were recovered on the scene by authorities.
Mendez was later found and arrested at a local gas station. Per the arrest document, the clothing he was wearing in the surveillance footage reportedly matched that of the shooting suspect.
He was booked on suspicion of multiple offenses, including two first-degree felony counts of discharging a firearm, a second-degree felony count of a restricted-person firearm transaction and a third-degree felony count of property damage/destruction.
Mendez later was ordered to be held without bail.
The condition of the victim was not disclosed. Requests for comment from the Ogden City Police Department were not immediately answered.
