Police lightsRIVERDALE — A man is in custody following a stabbing incident at a Riverdale apartment complex Thursday that resulted in a woman’s death.
According to an affidavit of probable cause, 39-year-old Scott Thomas Myers was arrested and booked into the Weber County Jail on Thursday night on suspicion of murder, aggravated assault, failure to stop at the command of law enforcement, interfering with a peace officer, prohibited dangerous-weapon conduct and possession of a controlled substance.
Judge Cristina Ortega has ordered that Myers be held without bail.
Officers from the Riverdale Police Department responded to the Greenhill Apartments — located at 4189 S. 300 West in Riverdale — at approximately 2:28 p.m. after receiving reports of a stabbing in progress, per the arrest document. Upon their arrival, responding officers were told by a witness that he and the victim had traveled to Myers’ apartment together. While there, the witness said that he observed Myers on top of the woman, stabbing her.
According to the affidavit, the witness told police that he attempted to intervene, eventually leaving the apartment to retrieve a baseball bat from his vehicle. Upon his return, Myers was reportedly standing in the doorway, and eventually locked himself inside the apartment with the victim after the witness tried to force his way inside.
Police ultimately gained access to and cleared the apartment, finding the victim unresponsive with several stab wounds to her chest and torso; a knife with what appeared to be blood on it reportedly also was found near the victim. Attempts to save her proved unsuccessful and she died on the scene, per the arrest document.
It was noted that Myers appeared to have fled the scene through a rear window. However, an ID belonging to him was reportedly found near the victim and his information was distributed to other law enforcement agencies. According to the affidavit, officers from the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office and the Roy Police Department later spotted Myers in the area of the Riverdale Road viaduct. Although he attempted to flee from officers, a Taser was reportedly used to subdue him, after which he was arrested and taken to a local hospital for evaluation. He was later released to authorities.
Per the arrest document, medical personnel told police that Myers had admitted to having used methamphetamine and fentanyl.
The identity of the victim has not been released and an investigation of the incident is ongoing.
