A burned shrub remains after a close call at a home on the 2800 block of Jackson Ave. in Ogden on Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2026.An alert passerby helped prevent possible damage to a home on Jackson Avenue, according to Ogden City. That unidentified individual spotted a shrub that had caught fire near the structure and extinguished the blaze using a garden hose, according to a press release from the city.
The release said that Ogden Fire Department crews responded to reports of a duplex fire on the 2800 block of Jackson Ave. at 7:15 a.m., but discovered just the still-smoking bush.
“Fire crews checked the duplex for any extension of the fire into the walls or attic space,” the release said. “While doing this, a resident of the duplex was found inside by fire crews with a medical condition not related to the fire. The occupant refused transport to the hospital after assessment. There were no other injuries associated with this incident.”
Smoking material was found in the area of the origin of the fire but had not been identified as the cause, the city said.
“The home is still deemed habitable,” the release said. “The exterior and interior of the home received moderate damage. The estimated damage cost was $12,000.”
The city said no further information is expected to be released regarding this incident.
