Fenstermaker scheduled to testify at his murder trial Friday

LAYTON — The only eyewitness to a 2015 West Point shooting finished two days of testimony Wednesday at the murder trial for Jory Fenstermaker.

Attorney Russell Farr, who is representing Fenstermaker, said his client is set to take the stand on Friday.

Fenstermaker, 24, is charged with first-degree felony murder in connection with the shooting death of Randy Lennell Lewis of Kansas City, Missouri. He’s accused of shooting Lewis on March 15, 2015, in West Point, but has asserted it was done in self-defense.

Andrea Green — mother of two of Lewis’ kids — testified Tuesday and Wednesday. During her Wednesday testimony, she reiterated her stance that the shooting was not done in self-defense, even though Lewis threatened to kill Fenstermaker before the shooting.

Green alleged that some of Fenstermaker’s friends had stolen $240 from her a few weeks before the night of the shooting. She said Lewis was questioning Fenstermaker about the incident when he made the threats and that they implied future action, or a warning, to be carried out if Fenstermaker let such an incident happen again.

When Farr asked Green how she could be sure the threats weren’t more immediate in nature, she said, “Because I know him. He would have done something if he’d meant it.”

Wednesday’s proceedings included other testimony, including from Randy Anderson and Jarrel Fox.

Anderson, a friend of Lewis’ who provided him and Fenstermaker with marijuana just hours prior to the shooting, said Lewis wasn’t acting like himself and seemed “standoffish” when he and Fenstermaker bought the marijuana.

Fox picked Fenstermaker up near a Wal-Mart shortly after the shooting, but said he was unaware of the incident until the following day, when he heard about it on social media. Fox described Fenstermaker as “calm” when he picked him up.

After Fenstermaker’s testimony on Friday, the defense and prosecution will make their closing arguments. A verdict from the 10-member jury is expected Monday, Feb. 6.
