Perry youth lifter breaks records

A youth powerlifter from Perry set four national records at the United States Powerlifting Association’s Drug Tested Nationals on July 10 in Las Vegas.

Kynzlee Miller, 14, competed in the junior women category for 13- to 15-year-olds and the 60kg/132.2-pound weight class.

Miller set the national record for her squat (198.4 pounds), bench press (110.2 pounds) and deadlift (259.0 pounds), plus the new national record for her competition total of 567.7 pounds, which breaks a record that stood since 2019.

Tremonton woman on USA team

Megan Jenson of Tremonton will compete for the United States in goalball at the IBSA World Games from Aug. 18-27 in England, vying for a spot in the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris.

Jenson is one of three on the team looking to compete in the Paralympics for the first time. Only one Paralympic bid is available at the World Games.

Goalball is the most popular team sport for the blind and visually impaired, according to the U.S. Association of Blind Athletes. It’s a 3-on-3 sport that involves rolling a ball with bells inside it toward the opponent’s goal on the other side of the court, and the defensive team tries to use that sound to block each shot.

Layton long-driver competes near home

Layton native Ryan Reisbeck will compete in this weekend’s World Long Drive tour event being held in Davis County.

The WLD’s latest competition will be at Lakeside Golf Course in West Bountiful on Friday and Saturday.

Reisbeck, 45, is a former baseball player at Salt Lake Community College who has competed in long drive events since 2010. He’ll compete in the Open Division and also make his debut in the Senior Division this weekend, according to a news release.

Reisbeck is currently the world’s No. 15 long driver with 13 career wins, 15 runner-up finishes and a world-record 485-yard drive.
