Prep basketball roundup: Bonneville boys lock up Clearfield early for win

CLEARFIELD — Bonneville High boys basketball improved to 3-0 this season with a 50-43 win at Clearfield on Wednesday night in which the Lakers held the Falcons scoreless for the entire first quarter.

Koy Dixon led Bonneville (3-0) with 14 points and made three 3-pointers. Jake Williams scored 12 points and Joe Tesch added 10 for the Lakers.

Clearfield (0-2), which didn’t score until a pair of free throws at the 7:13 mark of the second quarter, was led in scoring by Dawson Gardner’s 10 points. Austin Mitchell added nine points. The Falcons went 14 of 17 from the free throw line.

DAVIS 63, LEHI 44

KAYSVILLE — Colby Sims poured in 25 points and Davis got the upper hand early with an 11-3 first quarter, claiming a win in a matchup of the defending 6A and 5A state champions.

Sims knocked down five 3-pointers and added three assists. Max Painter added 14 points and four rebounds, and Rex Sunderland totaled six points, six rebounds, four assists and seven steals.

Davis (1-0) turned Lehi over 19 times, leading to 23 points, and outscored the Pioneers 32-16 in the paint.

FREMONT 53, RIVERTON 45

PLAIN CITY — In a battle of the Silverwolves, Fremont outscored Riverton 30-22 in the second half to move to 2-0 this season.

Hunter Hansen led Fremont with 21 points, 13 of which came in the fourth quarter. David Calvert added 11 for Fremont.

PRESTON (ID) 68, SYRACUSE 57 (OT)

SYRACUSE — Preston (Idaho) shot 11 of 12 from the foul line and won the overtime period 15-4 to claim a win at Syracuse.

Brandon Clark knocked down six 3-pointers and scored 20 points for Syracuse (0-3). Carter Semrow and Kaden Ericksen each scored 10 points.

OLYMPUS 80, BOX ELDER 64

BRIGHAM CITY — Olympus outscored Box Elder 40-27 in the second half in a season-opening loss for the Bees.

Cole Mortensen led the Bees (0-1) with 15 points, Elijah Kersey scored 13 points and Matt Low added 10.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

BEN LOMOND 48, ST. JOSEPH 24

OGDEN — Ben Lomond led 41-19 after three quarters to get its first win of the season.

Avery Beadles led Ben Lomond (1-3) with 13 points, making four 3-pointers. Dory Jenson scored 12 points.

Sarah Snell scored eight points to lead St. Joseph (1-1).

OGDEN 52, TOOELE 29

TOOELE — Ogden shot 45% from 3-point range as the Tigers (2-1) thumped Tooele on the road.

Grace Pulley led Ogden with 14 points on 6-of-10 shooting with six rebounds.

Mahine Bergeson added 13 points for the Tigers on 5-of-7 shooting with a 3-of-4 mark from 3-point range, five assists and five steals.

Ashley Christensen and Lucy Ballard added eight points each for the Tigers.

LAYTON CHRISTIAN 68, WEST 34

SALT LAKE CITY — Layton Christian led 41-18 at halftime, four players scored in double figures and the Eagles improved to 2-0.

Ruzgar Boyle made six 3-pointers and led LCA with 28 points, Mariana Cubero scored 12, Mia Jones scored 11 and Bianca Silva added 10.

LAYTON CHRISTIAN 74, LOGAN 25

LAYTON — Layton Christian led 49-14 at halftime in a season-opening win Tuesday against Logan.

Ruzgar Boyle led the Eagles with 27 points and shot 7 of 9 from 3-point range. Mine Iscen added 14 for LCA. Mia Jones and Mariana Cubero each scored 10 points.
