By Patrick Carr - | Feb 2, 2022

Fremont students cheer during a prep football game against Roy on Friday, Aug. 20, 2021, in Plain City.

More than a dozen Northern Utah prep student-athletes picked or made official their destinations for college athletics on Wednesday’s National Signing Day.

Here’s a brief look at those signings.

FOOTBALL

Hayden Hall, Fremont: Hall signed with Weber State on Wednesday. He was listed as a tight end by WSU. As a receiver, he caught 98 passes for 943 yards and six touchdowns at Fremont this year.

Hall was initially recruited by former WSU offensive coordinator Matt Hammer, who stepped down from that role last month. WSU still recruited Hall after Hammer left.

“I went up there and visited the campus last week and the coaching staff and everything was just super good to me, and the program has just been absolutely changed the last 10 years, and Jay Hill’s just turned it into a really good football program, so I thought it’d be a great place to go play,” Hall said Wednesday. “That was kind of my big deciding factors for me.”

Hall said the prospect of playing tight end also attracted him to Weber State. Hall said he’ll serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints after high school.

Hall reported offers and interest from Portland State, Southern Utah, Florida Atlantic and Black Hills State.

Kyler Kotter, Fremont: Kotter, a running back and kick returner, will take a walk-on spot at Southern Utah.

Kotter rushed for 739 yards and 11 touchdowns, had 640 receiving yards and 514 total return yards between kickoffs and punts for Fremont last season.

Aiden Gamble, Fremont: Gamble, an offensive and defensive lineman, will walk on at Southern Utah.

Josh Acord, Northridge: A two-way starter at receiver and linebacker, Acord verbally committed to Southern Utah last month and officially signed with the school Wednesday. He’s listed by SUU as a linebacker.

For the Knights this season, Acord had 1,095 receiving yards and 15 touchdowns on offense, and 96 total tackles (seven for loss) with two sacks, two interceptions and two fumble recoveries on defense.

Austin Joy, Northridge: Joy, an offensive and defensive lineman, is committed to NAIA Morningside University in Sioux City, Iowa. Morningside has won three of the last four NAIA national championships.

For the Knights on defense, Joy had 77 total tackles with eight for loss, two sacks and two forced fumbles.

Matthew Lofaso, Syracuse: Lofaso, a defensive lineman, is committed to Black Hills State in South Dakota. Lofaso made 51 tackles with 7.5 for loss and 2.5 sacks for Syracuse this season.

Ty Metcalfe, Syracuse: Metcalfe, who played safety at Idaho State last year, transferred to Weber State. Metcalfe played quarterback at Syracuse.

Zach Barber, Layton: Barber, a defensive lineman, signed to play at Snow College. Barber made 37 total tackles with nine for loss, 3.5 sacks and a blocked kick for Layton this season.

Carson Arnold, Box Elder: Arnold, a tight end and defensive lineman, signed with NAIA school Montana Western in Dillon, Montana. Arnold caught 16 passes for 261 yards for Box Elder this year and made 21 tackles on defense.

Broox McGiven, Morgan: McGiven, an offensive lineman, announced he’ll play at Snow College following a mission. At Morgan this year, McGiven blocked for an offense that rushed for more than 2,100 yards.

Anisi Purcell, Bountiful: Purcell, a defensive and offensive lineman, signed with Southern Utah. He verbally committed to SUU in January and also had late interest from Dixie State. SUU lists him as a defensive lineman.

Purcell made 32 total tackles on defense with 8.5 for loss, three sacks and four forced fumbles this season for Bountiful

Micah Pettit, Bountiful: Pettit, a kicker/punter who graduated from Bountiful High, transferred to Southern Utah from Lafayette College.
