Next on the prep basketball playoff docket: Iron H-O-R-S-E, Part 3.

Ben Lomond and Ogden High’s boys basketball teams learned Saturday that they’ll meet for a third time this season, that being this coming Saturday, Feb. 19 at 1 p.m. at Ben Lomond High School in the second round of the state playoffs, as the UHSAA announced brackets for the 3A and 2A state tournaments.

Both teams got a first-round bye. Ben Lomond (13-8) is the No. 6 seed while Ogden (9-12) is No. 11.

The Tigers were hovering around the Nos. 12-13 spots and, though they lost both games last week, enough happened around them to vault them to No. 11, which does mean they’ll miss out on a first-round home game that’s afforded to seed Nos. 12-16.

This season, the home team won both games between BLHS and OHS: Ben Lomond won 43-40 at home, and Ogden won 61-52 at home. The playoff game has a quarterfinal berth at Weber State on the line.

Overall, four of the top six 3A boys seeds are from Region 13. Layton Christian (16-7), coming off an undefeated season in region play, is the No. 1 seed and Morgan (14-7) is No. 5. LCA will host the Emery/Providence Hall winner at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 19, while Morgan will host either Canyon View or Delta.

In the 3A girls tournament, Region 13 champion Morgan (15-7) is the No. 5 seed, has a first-round bye and will host a second-round game at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 18, against No. 12 South Summit, whom the Trojans beat twice in region play.

Layton Christian’s girls team is No. 6 and will host No. 11 Canyon View, also on Friday. Ogden (6-16) is No. 18 and will head to No. 15 Juab in the first round, which will be played at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 15.

Ben Lomond (3-18) is the No. 20 seed and will visit Delta in the first round.

Only one area team has a first-round home playoff game, and that’s St. Joseph’s girls team in 2A. The No. 15 Jayhawks (8-8) host No. 18 Waterford at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 15. Utah Military Academy’s girls team is No. 20 and visits Enterprise in the first round.

On the 2A boys side, St. Joseph and UMA are both on the road on Wednesday, Feb. 16. The No. 19 Jayhawks (4-14) visit No. 14 North Sevier while the No. 23 Thunderbirds (0-11) go to Kanab.
