Prep basketball roundup: Fisher catches fire, Morgan boys rout Mountain Crest

MORGAN — Alex Fisher drained eight 3-pointers to lead Morgan High boys basketball in a 72-40 home blitzing of Mountain Crest (1-11) on Friday night.

Fisher’s 28 points led a Morgan (11-1) attack that totaled 13 3-pointers. Nixan Ordyna scored nine points, Aiden Harris eight and Gavin Turner seven.

Fisher scored 17 points in the first quarter on five 3-pointers as Morgan built a 28-7 lead. He added two more triples in the second quarter for 23 first-half points.

BONNEVILLE 67, GREEN CANYON 62

WASHINGTON TERRACE — Bonneville got six 3-pointers from Koy Dixon, outpaced Green Canyon 37-26 in the first half and held on for a home win.

Dixon’s 18 points led Bonneville (10-2). Carson Jones scored 15 points, Bo Dixon had 11 and Joe Tesch chipped in nine.

CLEARFIELD 42, LAYTON 37

CLEARFIELD — Clearfield held Layton to two first-quarter points, led 21-18 after three quarters and won a fourth-quarter track meet 21-19 to secure its first region win.

Dawson Gardner led Clearfield (2-9, 1-1 Region 1) with 16 points — seven in the first quarter, nine in the fourth. Lincoln Church pitched in eight points and Peyton Kotter had seven. The Falcons shot 13 of 16 from the foul line in the final quarter.

Connor Wilson scored 15 points for Layton (3-8, 0-2) and KJ Miller added nine.

NORTHRIDGE 54, SPRINGVILLE 47

LAYTON — Northridge shot 17 of 25 from the foul line in the second half, including 12 of 14 in the fourth quarter, to outlast Springville (7-5) at home.

Landon Woll led Northridge (7-6) with 21 points. Sam Sivulich added 15 points and Jack Terry had eight.

BOX ELDER 64, PROVO 50

PROVO — Box Elder led 41-36 after three quarters and converted 9 of 11 free throws in the final frame to grab a road win at Provo (1-10).

Elijah Kersey led all scorers with 19 points for Box Elder (8-4). Cole Mortensen scored 16 points and Matthew Low added 11, each making two 3-pointers.

SALEM HILLS 64, LAYTON CHRISTIAN 54

LAYTON — Layton Christian was outscored 28-9 in the third quarter in a home loss to Salem Hills (6-7).

Tyrese Lacey led all scorers with 13 points for Layton Christian (6-5) and Tunc Tuncel added 10.

SCHEDULE CHANGES

Friday’s Ben Lomond-Rowland Hall game was canceled due to COVID-19 issues at BLHS. Ben Lomond’s game Wednesday, Jan. 12, against Grantsville has been postponed to a yet-to-be-determined date.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

SYRACUSE 58, WEBER 18

PLEASANT VIEW — Syracuse led 33-5 at the half in a big win at Weber.

Gracie Sorenson led Syracuse (10-1, 1-0 Region 1) with 17 points. Whitney Sorenson added 10 points. Ten Titans scored in the game.

Allie Clark led Weber (4-7, 1-1) with eight points. Jazmyn Bennett added four.

LAYTON 49, CLEARFIELD 38

LAYTON — Layton built a 29-16 lead at halftime to claim a home region win and hold off 24 points from Clearfield’s Miranda Mansfield.

Charly Stevens led Layton (5-6, 1-1 Region 1) with 19 points and Mallory Packard hit three 3-pointers for her nine points.

Mansfield added a team-high seven rebounds, with three assists and three steals, for Clearfield (0-11, 0-2).

BEAR RIVER 62, UNION 52

ROOSEVELT — Bear River outscored Union (3-11) in every quarter in a road win.

Jenna LaCroix led all scorers with 19 points on three 3-pointers for Bear River (3-8). Lexie Westmorland scored 16 and Gracie Riley tallied 10 points.
