Prep roundup: Ben Lomond boys basketball falls to No. 1 Grantsville

By Patrick Carr - | Jan 24, 2022

Ben Lomond High boys basketball trailed Grantsville 54-51 at one point in the fourth quarter of their game Monday night, but the Cowboys, ranked No. 1 in the 3A boys basketball RPI, pulled away for a 65-56 win.

Kekoa Beard, who had missed the last two games for the Scots (9-6, 1-3 Region 13), scored a game-high 26 points. Caleb Alexander scored 13 points for Ben Lomond.

The game was originally scheduled for Jan. 12, but was rescheduled for Monday due to Ben Lomond’s COVID-19 pause earlier this month.

A 3-pointer by Caleb Alexander in the middle of the third quarter gave the Scots a 41-39 lead, but Grantsville came back to go up 52-48 at the end of the quarter and didn’t relinquish the lead the rest of the game.

Another Alexander 3 cut the Cowboys’ lead to 54-51 in the fourth, but Ben Lomond got no closer. The Scots led 27-21 at one point late in the second quarter before Grantsville went on a 10-0 run to take a 31-27 lead at halftime.

The Scots visit South Summit on Wednesday to continue Region 13 play before playing Grantsville again on the road on Friday.
