Ben Lomond's Marley McMillen (10) slides into second base as Ogden's Trinity Probasco tries to apply a tag during a softball game Tuesday, April 19, 2022, at BLHS in Ogden.

The 3A softball state tournament brackets were released Thursday night in a surprise move about 12 hours before they were initially scheduled to be released Friday morning.

Morgan, Ogden and Ben Lomond High’s teams will all open the 3A playoffs on the road Saturday. There was some optimism that Morgan, Region 13 co-champions with an 18-8 overall record, would host playoff games.

The Trojans ended up as the No. 7 seed and will face No. 10 North Sanpete at 3 p.m. Saturday at Grantsville High. The winner moves on and plays next Thursday at 12:15 p.m. at the Spanish Fork Softball Complex.

The loser plays at 5:30 p.m. Saturday against the loser of the Grantsville and Ben Lomond/Summit Academy first-round game.

Ogden (3-10) is the No. 12 seed and takes on No. 5 Emery at 3 p.m. Saturday at South Summit. The winner moves on to next week’s later rounds, and the loser plays at 5:30 p.m. Saturday against the South Summit/Juab loser.

Ben Lomond (6-13) is the No. 15 seed and will face No. 18 Summit Academy at 10 a.m. Saturday at Grantsville High, with the winner facing No. 2 Grantsville. The loser will be eliminated from the playoffs.
