DRAPER — Paige Erickson scored the game’s only goal in the 76th minute as No. 5 Farmington High girls soccer eliminated the No. 1 seed by handing Lone Peak (18-1) its first loss of the season with a 1-0 victory in the 6A semifinals played Tuesday evening at Juan Diego High School.

Erickson deflected a rebound of a Swayzee Arnell shot that the Lone Peak keeper did not play cleanly and the ball trickled into the net past a Knights defender.

“It was a great cross from Swayzee Arnell and Paige Erickson did what we knew we had to do — press the back line and crash the goal,” Farmington coach Sarah Beecher said.

Emmy McKeon kept the clean sheet for Farmington (14-5). Lone Peak put the ball in the Phoenix net in the 78th minute, but the goal was waved off due to an offside call.

“Our defense is why we won this game,” Beecher said. “We knew that if they did their job today, we had a good chance of beating a very good offensive Lone Peak team.”
