When Ogden High’s girls soccer team went on its four-game run and won last year’s 3A state championship, the Tigers did so by outscoring their four postseason foes by a combined 16-0.
A similar theme has emerged this postseason. In three playoff games this year, the No. 6-seeded Tigers have now outscored their opponents 12-0 after beating No. 7 Juan Diego Catholic 2-0 on Thursday night at Jordan High in the 3A semifinals.
Ogden (13-5) advanced to Saturday’s state championship game, which is the program’s fourth straight title-game appearance (two in the 4A classification, two in 3A). The Tigers won state championships in 2019 and 2021.
Saturday’s title game is at 5 p.m. against the Real Salt Lake Academy charter high school, which is housed at the RSL Academy campus in Herriman — which is where the title game will be played (Zions Bank Stadium).
Ogden junior midfielder Nevaeh Peregrina, the team’s leading goalscorer now with 18 goals this year, put Ogden ahead 1-0 when she finished a one-on-one chance in the 10th minute.
Peregrina, who played this past spring with Team USA’s Under-16 Girls National Team, announced earlier this week she’d committed to the University of Portland for college soccer.
Ruth Larsen doubled the Tigers’ lead with a goal from about 25 yards out on the right side of the field, the ball ending up in the opposite side netting of the goal, very similar to her first-minute goal Saturday in the 2-0 quarterfinal win at Morgan.
Bella Gray hit two good shots in the 48th and 49th minutes that were both saved with the latter shot pushed out for a corner kick.
