Prep basketball roundup: Romer hits 2 buzzer-beaters to keep Layton boys undefeated
HOLLADAY — Sam Romer did it for the second time in two days, hitting a 3-pointer at the overtime buzzer to lift Layton High boys basketball to a 74-71 win over Mountain View at Olympus High’s Utah Autism Holiday Classic on Thursday afternoon, keeping the Lancers unbeaten this season.
Mekhi Martin led Layton (10-0) with 25 points and two 3-pointers. Romer added 21 points, and his game-winner was his only 3-pointer on the afternoon.
KJ Miller made five treys on his way to 19 points.
LAYTON 57, MURRAY 56
HOLLADAY — Sam Romer made a layup at the buzzer to lift Layton to a win Wednesday over Murray at Olympus High’s Utah Autism Holiday Classic.
KJ Miller led Layton (9-0) with 16 points on four 3-pointers. Mekhi Martin scored 13 points with two treys, while Romer and Joshua Checketts each added 10 points.
SYRACUSE 65, CLEARFIELD 55
SYRACUSE — Terik Hamblin scored a game-high 18 points to lead Syracuse to a home win over Clearfield.
Josh Godfrey tallied 15 points for Syracuse (5-4). Logan Goddard added 14.
Peyton Kotter led Clearfield (3-5) with 13 points and Trace Hansen added 10.

PLEASANT VIEW — Weber led 38-28 at the half, then outscored Bear River 22-10 in the third quarter to pace a home win Wednesday.
Hunter Schenck led all scorers with 25 points and five 3-pointers for Weber (9-1). Jordan Oberholtzer scored 17 points with three treys and Malachi Spencer added 11 points.
Brayden Ritter led Bear River (9-2) with 15 points. Kyver Jensen added 13 points and Kaser Thurgood scored nine.

RIVERTON — Riverton outscored Syracuse 16-6 in a pivotal second quarter on Wednesday.
Terik Hamblin paced Syracuse (4-4) with 15 points and three 3-pointers. Josh Godfrey and Skyler Ortyon each scored 13 points while Logan Goddard added 10.

Kendra Kitchen led Davis (9-0) with 22 points on two 3-pointers. Kate Richards added 20 points and three treys.

WASHINGTON TERRACE — Bonneville trailed 24-19 at the half, then was outscored 20-11 in the third quarter in a home loss to Mountain Crest.
