Prep basketball roundup: Roy boys use hot shooting to topple Weber 76-67

ROY — Roy High boys basketball stifled Weber in a 14-6 second quarter and stunned the Warriors 76-67 on Friday night for the visitors’ second loss of the season.

Bronson Belnap scored 20 points on 6-of-8 shooting to lead Roy (5-4), adding seven assists and four rebounds. Colby Frokjer shot 5 of 9 from deep for 19 points and Dahlen Pontius totaled 16 points and 12 rebounds. The Royals shot 28 of 47 (59%) overall and 9 of 17 (52%) from deep.

Jordan Oberholtzer totaled 17 points and five assists for Weber (9-2), making three 3-pointers. Tyler Payne scored 11 points, and Will Stratford totaled 10 points and nine rebounds. Star scorer Hunter Schenck netted 10 points.

LAYTON 79, WASATCH 58

HOLLADAY — Five Lancers scored in double figures as Layton beat Wasatch to finish Olympus High’s Utah Autism Holiday Classic undefeated.

Mekhi Martin led Layton (11-0) with 17 points and two 3-pointers. Sam Romer netted 16 points, KJ Miller scored 14, Jonah Fullmer tallied 12 and Cade Tidwell added 11 points and three treys.

BOX ELDER 56, PROVO 52

PROVO — Box Elder trailed 44-41 after three quarters, then outscored Provo 15-5 in the final frame for the Bees’ first win.

Elijah Kersey led Box Elder (1-8) with 24 points and two 3-pointers. Max Isaacson added 20 points. Four other Bees scored three points apiece.

SYRACUSE 57, WEST JORDAN 47

WEST JORDAN — Syracuse led 23-19 at the half in a win at West Jordan.

Terik Hamblin led Syracuse (6-4) with 22 points. Logan Goddard netted nine points and Josh Godfrey tallied eight.

LOGAN 53, NORTHRIDGE 50

LAYTON — Northridge led 16-13 after one quarter, but could not keep the lead in a close loss to Logan.

Bentley Whitear led all scorers with 28 points and four 3-pointers for Northridge (1-8). Peyton Perkins added nine points.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

BOX ELDER 60, LAYTON 48

LAYTON — Ashlyn Wight led all scorers with 17 points and three 3-pointers as Box Elder grabbed a road win at Layton.

Maddie Thurgood tallied 14 points for Box Elder (7-2). Jocelyn Vranes scored 10 points with two treys.

Taya Pace and Oakley Homer each scored 12 points for Layton (5-7), with Pace hitting three 3-pointers and Homer two. Avery Potter netted seven points.

ROY 59, BEN LOMOND 36

ROY — Ben Lomond led 13-12 after one quarter, then Roy used a 20-5, second-stanza advantage to take control in a home win.

Ellie Speredon led all scorers with 14 points for Roy (4-5). Jerzee Hart scored 13 points. Jazzi Prieto added eight points, seven rebounds and three assists. Alyea Martinez hit two 3-pointers for six points and had six steals.

Dory Jenson led Ben Lomond (6-6) with 12 points. Jazzy Tinajero scored 11 points with two 3-pointers. Anahi Flores hauled in six rebounds.

BEAR RIVER 48, OGDEN 24

GARLAND — Bear River led 27-12 at the half in a home win over Ogden.

Saydee Pebley led all scorers with 16 points for Bear River (4-6). Brooklynn Pond added seven points.

Ogden (3-9) got 10 points from Salote Tonga and Lily Gonzalez pitched in seven.

SYRACUSE 50, MTN CREST 33

HYRUM — Avery Sanders scored 15 points and Cortnie Barker added 14 as Syracuse (7-3) won at Mountain Crest.

Syracuse led 45-23 after three quarters.

BOUNTIFUL 61, FREMONT 42

PLAIN CITY — Fremont led 17-15 after the first quarter, then was outscored 46-25 the rest of the way in a home loss to Bountiful.

Syncere Langston and Abby Christensen each scored 13 points for Fremont (5-5). Kale Brian added six points.

‬CEDAR VALLEY 45, CLEARFIELD 30

CLEARFIELD — Clearfield trailed 16-5 after one quarter and could not recover in its first loss of the season, falling at home to Cedar Valley.

Izzy Wyaskett scored nine points to lead Clearfield (7-1). Ciara De La O tallied six points and Emiko Kano added five.

BEAR RIVER 43, TOOELE 35

GARLAND — Angelie Delgado scored 13 points with three 3-pointers to lead Bear River to a home win over Tooele late Thursday.

Shelby Wilkinson tallied eight points for Bear River (3-6) and Aubree Fry netted seven points.
