Prep basketball roundup: Clearfield, Davis, Roy girls all open region play at 2-0

CLEARFIELD — Clearfield High girls basketball used a 15-point third quarter to pull away from Layton in a 42-27 victory Friday.

Xiyah Yarbrough led Clearfield (8-3, 2-0 Region 1) with 12 points. Izzy Wyaskett scored eight points, Amoree Scholer seven and Brooklyn Hawks had six.

Layton (1-9, 0-2) got 10 points from Charly Stevens and managed nine points in the second half.

DAVIS 51, FARMINGTON 40

FARMINGTON — Farmington led 23-18 at the half, then Davis took control with a 17-8 advantage in the third quarter for a region road win.

Kendra Kitchen scored a game-high 20 points for Davis (9-1, 2-0 Region 1). T’Maea Eteuati tallied 13 points and Aryanna Bull added 10.

Marissa Marchant led Farmington (6-5, 0-2) with 11 points. Whitney Avei and Courtney Christiansen each scored six points.

ROY 40, GRANGER 39

ROY — Nicole Williams hauled in 20 rebounds and Roy led 32-24 after three quarters, then held off a Granger rally to claim its second region win of the week in as many games.

Alyea Martinez led Roy (2-9, 2-0 Region 2) with 10 points. Jerzee Hart totaled seven points and 10 rebounds. Williams and Jazzie Prieto each also added seven points.

SYRACUSE 42, WEBER 25

PLEASANT VIEW — Weber led 8-7 after one quarter, then Syracuse took control with a 17-2 advantage in the second quarter for a road win.

Maylee Anderson led all scorers with 10 points and two 3-pointers for Syracuse (7-4, 1-0 Region 1). Cortnie Barker tallied eight points and Avery Sanders scored seven.

Katelynn Butler led Weber (3-8, 0-2) with eight points. Abby Sayer scored seven points. Allie Clark added six.

BEN LOMOND 49, ST. JOSEPH 35

OGDEN — Kyara Tinajero led all scorers with 21 points and two 3-pointers as Ben Lomond won at St. Joseph.

Jazlynn Tinajero added 12 points and three treys for Ben Lomond (9-2).

St. Joseph (4-7) did not report stats.

COPPER HILLS 46, FREMONT 45

PLAIN CITY — Fremont led 25-19 at the half but couldn’t hold off a Copper Hills comeback in a home loss.

Sierra Eddie led Fremont (7-5) with 17 points and four 3-pointers. Charli Hunt scored 10 points and Kaidance King added seven.

RIDGELINE 50, BOUNTIFUL 43

MILLVILLE — Bountiful trailed 25-17 at halftime and lost a battle of unbeatens at 4A Ridgeline (12-0).

Taylor Harvey led Bountiful (9-1) with 16 points and Lizzy McConkie scored nine. Claire Cook scored eight points.

MORGAN 70, WASATCH 67 (3OT)

HEBER CITY — Morgan claimed a back-and-forth affair by outscoring Wasatch 7-4 in the third overtime period Thursday night.

Amaya Rogers totaled 26 points, 12 rebounds and four steals to lead Morgan (9-4). Alyvia Jaffa added 17 points and 11 rebounds, while Elena Birkeland pitched in 12 points and seven steals.

BOYS BASKETBALL

DAVIS 65, FARMINGTON 58

FARMINGTON — Davis led 46-29 after three quarters and held off a Farmington charge for a region road win.

Colby Whicker led Davis (7-6, 1-1 Region 1) with 15 points and seven rebounds. Kaden Eggett added 12 points and seven boards while Alex Fisher tallied 12 points and six rebounds.

Cole Johnson scored a game-high 17 points with three assists for Farmington (8-4, 0-2). Paul Beattie tallied a double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds. Jayden Haskell added 10 points.

ROY 63, GRANGER 57

ROY — Elijah Sowards poured in 30 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead Roy in a hard-fought region win.

Bronson Belnap totaled 16 points and three steals for Roy (6-7, 1-1 Region 2). Beau Belnap pitched in eight points. Sowards shot 13 of 18 from the field.

BOX ELDER 49, LOGAN 45

LOGAN — Jackson McKee scored a game-high 15 points to lead Box Elder to a win at Logan.

Cole Mortensen tallied 11 points for Box Elder (7-4) and Christian Watkins added eight.

LAYTON CHRISTIAN 58, VENICE-CA 30

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. — Layton Christian held Venice (California) to single digits in each quarter to win the championship at the Ed Baker San Fernando Valley Invitational.

Tyrese Lacey was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player for Layton Christian (12-7). Lacey led Friday’s win with 16 points.

Otavio Armani scored 12 points, and Tyrin Jones and Ates Yetimoglu each scored 10.

UNION 54, BEN LOMOND 44

OGDEN — Ben Lomond led 13-11 after one quarter but was outscored 31-22 in the second half in a home loss to Union.

Jake East scored 20 points for Ben Lomond (0-10). Jaxon Watson added 10 points.

RIVERTON 64, VIEWMONT 57

SOUTH JORDAN — Riverton erased a 15-7 deficit by outscoring Viewmont 24-11 in the second quarter.

Scott Noel led Viewmont (5-8) with 13 points and five rebounds. Trevor Green added 11 points and Drez Jensen had 10 points and five assists.

SPRINGVILLE 64, NORTHRIDGE 53

LAYTON — Northridge led 30-23 at the half but was outscored 19-6 in a pivotal third quarter in a home loss to Springville.

De’Qoune Kennedy led Northridge (5-6) with 12 points and Josh Kitchen added 10 points with two 3-pointers.
