Morgan High boys wrestling won the team championship at last weekend’s Richardson Memorial Tournament at Box Elder High, accumulating 219 points and barely beating Westlake (217).

The Trojans were led by three individual champions.

Freshman Luke Woolsey won the 113-pound weight class title with an 8-3 decision over Westlake’s Keagan Pitcher, sophomore Drew Korth took home the title at 126 pounds with a 14-8 win over Mountain Crest’s Easton Evans in the final, and Rylee Creasey got a first-period pin to win the 190-pound title over Mountain Crest’s Sam Schroeder.

Ryler Jorgensen (120), Taite Toone (138), Rylan Crowther (150), Zak Sargent (157), Aydon Thomson (215) and Cole Keele (285) placed in their respective weight classes for Morgan.

Fremont High junior Rylan Doak beat Star Valley (Wyoming) sophomore Levi Byrd 11-4 to win the 106-pound weight class. Doak pinned his first-round and semifinal opponents en route to winning the title.

Bear River’s Max Miller pinned Corner Canyon’s Quinn Bedell to win the 132-pound final, Box Elder’s Jackson Ricks beat Corner Canyon’s Payden Woolsey 6-2 to win at 144 pounds and Fremont’s Logan Hancey won the 157-pound title by beating South Summit’s Benjamin Smith 5-0.

Fremont finished fourth as a team with 144 points, 10 behind Mountain Crest. Colby Tennant (113), Kamren Wolff (138), Treyson Hunt (150), Trapper Anderson (165) and Jacob Keblis (175) also placed for the Silverwolves.

ALL-STAR DUALS

Matchups for the annual All-Star Duals at Utah Valley University were released recently. The event starts at 5:45 p.m. Tuesday and pits top wrestlers from all classifications against each other in exhibition matches.

Area participants in the girls matches are Payton Gines (Davis), Sadie Hardy (Bear River), Kristina Kent (Davis), Marlie Rigby (Layton), Aleena Navarrette (Weber), Daeja Sundquist (Syracuse), Abbie Trayhorn (Bear River), Rhees Hatch (Bear River), Josalyn Quisenberry (Farmington), Sydnee Nielson (Bear River) and Bretlee Potter (Bear River).

Area participants on the boys side are Kaleb Blackner (Roy), Mason Carlson (Syracuse), Jason Worthley (Fremont), Drew Korth (Morgan) and Rylee Creasey (Morgan).

TWO LAYTON WRESTLERS PLACE AT PRESTIGIOUS CALIFORNIA TOURNAMENT

Two Layton High boys wrestlers placed at the prestigious Doc Buchanan Invitational (Clovis, California) over the weekend. Kael Bennie placed fourth in the 198-pound weight class and Geronimo Rivera placed fifth at 116.
