Prep roundup: Roy, Box Elder clinch share of Region 5 boys soccer title

BOUNTIFUL — Roy High boys soccer led 3-1 at the half and held off a Bountiful (7-5, 7-5 Region 5) comeback bid for a 4-3 region road win Tuesday, clinching at least a share of the Region 5 title.

David Rangel led Roy (9-3, 9-3 Region 5) with a goal and two assists. Boston Risk, Corben Shuffenhuar and Aidan Hart each netted once. Bronson Belnap had two assists.

BONNEVILLE 3, CLEARFIELD 2 (2OT)

CLEARFIELD — Luke Wilcoxen scored the golden goal in the second session of extra time to lift Bonneville to a region win at Clearfield.

Dennin Anderson had a goal and two assists, including Wilcoxen’s game-winner, for Bonneville (7-5, 7-5 Region 5). Jace Ryan netted once and Payton Rasle had an assist.

Clearfield (2-10, 2-10) did not report stats.

BRIGHAM CITY — Kennadie Blackmer batted 2 for 4 with a home run, a double, and drove in two as Box Elder beat Northridge in six innings.

Alexis Hales batted 3 for 4 with a double and two RBIs for Box Elder (17-4, 9-2 Region 5). Brooklyn Richards added two hits and two RBIs. Justy Pritchard doubled. Kellie Malan drove in three runs and pitched a complete game with six hits, two earned runs and nine strikeouts.

MaKaybree Nay and Jaden Anderson each hit a single and drove in one for Northridge (4-12, 3-7). Adyson Brady and Kaydence Chournos each had a hit and scored a run.

CLEARFIELD 4, BONNEVILLE 1

CLEARFIELD — Jenna Lloyd batted 3 for 3 with two RBIs and two runs scored, and pitched a complete game with three hits, zero earned runs and five strikeouts, to lead Clearfield past Bonneville.

Brynn Nicholls had two hits and an RBI for Clearfield (9-12, 5-6 Region 5). Addyson Haddock, Emma Durlack and Aly Ridge each hit a single.

Kaylee McAfee batted 2 for 4 with a double and drove in Chandlyr Noble, who hit a single, for the only Bonneville (16-3, 9-2) run.

GRANTSVILLE 16, MORGAN 10

GRANTSVILLE — Kaiya Peterson batted 3 for 4 with a double and three runs scored as Morgan fell at Grantsville (13-10, 9-1 Region 13).

Joesi Kelly had three hits and one RBI for Morgan (16-8, 7-3). Callie Averett hit a double and drove in four. Eva Birkeland hit a two-run double and Summer Bangerter added an RBI double.

BEN LOMOND 24, SUMMIT ACADEMY 9

OGDEN — Dory Jenson scored three runs, batted 2 for 4 with a double and three RBIs, and Ben Lomond earned its first win of the season with 24 runs on 12 hits in a four-inning affair Monday over Summit Academy.

Aniyah Gomez and Ofa Arreguin each hit a two-run double for Ben Lomond (1-13). Gomez earned the win in the circle with four earned runs, one hit, eight walks, and nine strikeouts.

MORGAN 10, VIEWMONT 8

BOUNTIFUL — Joesi Kelly hit a home run and two doubles, with five RBIs, to lead Morgan to a non-region win Monday at Viewmont.

Eva Birkeland batted 2 for 4 with a homer and two RBIs for Morgan (16-7). Lexi Hardiman hit a triple and a single and drove in two. Kassidy Wardell hit a double and a single. Callire Averett earned the win with 10 hits and four earned runs with two strikeouts.

LOGAN 16, CLEARFIELD 3

CLEARFIELD — Jenna Lloyd hit a solo home run and a double for Clearfield in a loss Monday to Logan.

Elizabeth Salazar and Addyson Haddock each had two hits for Clearfield (8-12).

KAYSVILLE — Carter Knight batted 2 for 3 as Davis downed Weber.

Owen Talbot hit a two-run single for Davis (15-5, 7-3 Region 1). Max Hunter and Wally Grant each hit an RBI single. Andrew Filimoehala got the win with six hits, one earned run and nine strikeouts over six innings.

Dax Rhees batted 2 for 3 with a double and one RBI for Weber (7-13, 3-7). Ashton Burnett added two hits.

FARMINGTON 11, LAYTON 9

FARMINGTON — Pickle Monk batted 3 for 4 with a double and four RBIs to lead Farmington past Layton.

James Peterson hit a triple, a double and drove in three for Farmington (7-11-1, 5-4-1 Region 1). Austin Rees and Max Pearson each hit an RBI single. Adam Barrett earned the win with five hits, four earned runs and two strikeouts over 3 1/3 innings.

Zane Morgan batted 3 for 4 and drove in one for Layton (10-9, 3-7). Tanner Neil, Fish Manning and Eli Anderson each had two hits. Emilio Cedeno hit a single and drove in three.

SYRACUSE 5, FREMONT 2

PLAIN CITY — Dom Johnatakis gave up six hits and one earned run with four strikeouts in a complete game as Syracuse won at Fremont.

Carson Miles and Broc Hopkins drove in runs for Syracuse (9-9-2, 5-4-1 Region 1).

Fremont (13-7, 6-4 Region 1) did not report stats.

BOX ELDER 10, NORTHRIDGE 0

BRIGHAM CITY — Ryan Griffin batted 2 for 3 with a home run and two RBIs as Box Elder beat Northridge in five innings.

Ashton Burton added two hits and two RBIs for Box Elder (10-10, 5-5 Region 5). Landon Golman hit a double, a single and drove in one. Camden Lish hit an RBI double. KJ Argyle and Maddox Earnest also doubled. Argyle got the win with two hits and five strikeouts.

Jon Olsen and Tytan Redd got the two Northridge (11-9, 3-7) hits.

BEAR RIVER 14, LOGAN 0

GARLAND — Easton Goodliffe pitched a five-inning no-hitter with 11 strikeouts, and batted 3 for 4 with a triple and four RBIs, as Bear River completed a series sweep of Logan.

Gehrig Marble batted 2 for 2 with a home run and four RBIs for Bear River (19-6, 12-3 Region 11). Brooks Drollinger went 2 for 2 and drove in three. Holdon Potter hit an RBI single.

BOX ELDER 11, NORTHRIDGE 1

LAYTON — Ryan Griffin hit a three-run home run to lead Box Elder to a five-inning region win Monday at Northridge.

Landon Golman batted 2 for 3 with a triple and an RBI for Box Elder. KJ Argyle batted 2 for 2 and drove in two. Freshman Judd Howells got the win with three hits, one earned run and five strikeouts in four innings.

Jon Olsen batted 3 for 3 with a double and one RBI for Northridge. Boston Wright got the other Knights’ hit.

CLEARFIELD 5, ROY 4

ROY — Ryan Frei hit a two-run single, and pitched a complete game allowing five hits and three earned runs, to lead Clearfield past Roy on Monday.

Peyton Kotter batted 2 for 3 with one RBI for Clearfield (9-11, 5-4 Region 5). Hudson Meyer, Logan Fenn and George Garcia each added two hits.

Samuel Smith and Bryce Bagby each doubled for Roy (4-16, 3-6). Connor Robinson hot a single and drove in two.

BEN LOMOND 11, SOUTH SUMMIT 5

KAMAS — Semaj Rodriguez batted 2 for 3 with two doubles, two runs scored and two RBIs as Ben Lomond won Monday at South Summit to get into the win column for the first time this season.

Cade Becraft batted 3 for 3 with three runs scored for Ben Lomond (1-11, 1-9 Region 13). Kayden Bingham added two hits and an RBI while Kaysen Reeves hit a single and drove in two. Max Doss hit two singles and got the win with six hits, three earned runs and eight strikeouts over 5 2/3 innings.

Davis Caldwell and Gabe Meredith paced Syracuse (17-7, 8-0 Region 1) with nine kills apiece. Branson Hamblin served three aces and had 13 digs. Caleb Roskelley tallied 31 assists.

Layton (1-12, 1-7) did not report stats.

DAVIS 3, FREMONT 0

KAYSVILLE — Davis swept Fremont 25-17, 25-14, 25-19.

Chase Valentine had 11 kills and 11 digs for Davis (11-6, 4-4 Region 1). Jack Bennett had 19 assists.
