Prep roundup: Ben Lomond, Morgan soccer win region openers; Box Elder softball, Bear River baseball win

GRANTSVILLE — Bryan Solis, Kevin Aguilar and Angel Hernandez each scored a goal to lead for Ben Lomond High boys soccer (2-3, 1-0 Region 13) to a 3-1 win at Grantsville on Thursday to open region play.

MORGAN 7, SOUTH SUMMIT 0

KAMAS — Jett Beckstrom scored four goals as Morgan opened region play with a win at South Summit.

Beau Johnson added two goals and two assists for Morgan (2-1, 1-0). Cam Burt added a goal and three assists. Ty Warner and Parker Stephenson each assisted one score.

Garret Henderson and Braden Howe combined for the clean sheet. The Trojans outshot South Summit 35-4, and held a 20-0 advantage in shots on goal.

WENDOVER 5, UTAH MILITARY 3

WENDOVER — Utah Military Academy led 2-0 at halftime, but gave up five second-half goals in a region loss.

Pedro Flores scored two goals with one assist for Utah Military (0-2, 0-1 2A North). Juan Montero scored one goal and Wesley Gill had one assist.

SOFTBALL

BOX ELDER 9, GRANTSVILLE 5

GRANTSVILLE — Box Elder led 9-2 going into the bottom of the seventh inning and withstood a Grantsville rally for a road win.

Malena Benson hit two home runs and drove in three for Box Elder (3-1). Grace Hodgson hit two doubles with two RBIs. Justy Pritchard and Kellie Malan each added a double. Six of the eight Bees hits went for extra bases.

Malan earned the win in the pitcher’s circle, allowing 10 hits and striking out eight in 6 2/3 innings.

BASEBALL

BEAR RIVER 10, GRANTSVILLE 7

GRANTSVILLE — Bear River scored seven runs in the fifth inning to take a 10-1 lead in a win at Grantsville.

Gehrig Marble and Jesse Kidd each hit a home run, a double and drove in four runs for Bear River (2-1).

Kolton Summers and Degan Rigby each added two hits. Rigby pitched five innings for the win, giving up five hits with nine strikeouts.

PLEASANT GROVE 5, FREMONT 2

OREM — Pleasant Grove scored five runs in the first inning with the help of five walks and two base hits, and Fremont couldn’t come all the way back in a game at Utah Valley University.

Bodee Goins batted 2 for 4 with a double, home run and two RBIs for Fremont (1-1). Garet Jones pitched five scoreless innings in relief.

JUDGE MEMORIAL 12, MORGAN 2

MORGAN — JJ Compton batted 2 for 3, and struck out four batters in seven innings pitched in a loss for Morgan (0-6).

Judge Memorial scored 10 runs in the fifth inning to break open a 2-2 tie and win by the 10-run rule.
