Wahlquist Junior High (Farr West) continued its run of dominance across most sports in Weber School District by capping an unbeaten girls basketball season with a 47-40 victory over Rocky Mountain Junior (West Haven) in the district championship game played Wednesday at Weber High School.

Brynn Wadman led Wahlquist (10-0) with 15 points. Abby Christensen scored 14 points and Olivia Surrage added nine points, including her team’s only 3-pointer.

Mia Smith and Ainsley Schiffman each scored 11 points for Rocky Mountain (8-2). Meghan Petersen added seven points.

Wahlquist led 21-15 at halftime. Rocky Mountain cut the deficit to 32-29 after three quarters, weathering Wahlquist’s press, but the Eagles put the game away in the fourth quarter in a game that featured two Fremont High feeder schools.

Wahlquist, coached by Jessica Farnsworth, defeated Sand Ridge (Roy) in the playoff semifinal to reach the title game. Rocky Mountain, coached by Lola Jean Lamb, advanced past Orion (Harrisville/Weber) in the semifinals; the Grizzlies’ only losses this season came to Wahlquist. Sand Ridge, Orion and Roy Junior all finished 5-3 in the regular season and contested a play-in to determine which two would reach the semifinals.
