Prep roundup: Weber’s Dax Rhees totals 8 RBIs to top Syracuse; Roy soccer to play region title game

SYRACUSE — Dax Rhees hit a grand slam, a two-run single and totaled eight RBIs, tied for the fourth highest single-game total in state history, in Weber High baseball’s 17-6 region win over Syracuse in five innings Friday.

Ashton Burnett batted 4 for 4 with a double and an RBI for Weber (5-15, 4-11 Region 1). Tyce Abbott drove in three with a double. Kody Baur pitched a complete game with seven hits and six strikeouts.

Tag Hamblin batted 2 for 3 with a home run and four RBIs for Syracuse (10-11, 8-7). Austin Burton went 2 for 3 with a triple and a double.

FREMONT 6, CLEARFIELD 5

CLEARFIELD — Fremont came back with four runs in the sixth inning to sweep Clearfield.

Karston Jamison batted 3 for 4 and Brigg Grange hit 2 for 3 with two RBIs and a triple for Fremont (18-3, 14-1 Region 1).

Peyton Kotter batted 2 for 4 and Colt Chambers drove in two runs for Clearfield (2-20, 0-15).

LAYTON 3, DAVIS 1

KAYSVILLE — Layton scored one run in each of the first three innings on the way to sweeping Davis.

Gunnar Wolfe batted 2 for 2 for Layton (14-8, 13-5 Region 1). Carter Schoenfeld hit a sacrifice fly. Preston Brimhall went 2 for 3 and drove in one from the plate, and pitched a complete game with four hits and four strikeouts.

Carter Knight hit a double for Davis (8-14, 8-7). Tyson Elkins hit a single and scored the Darts’ run.

BOX ELDER 8, NORTHRIDGE 6

LAYTON — Ashton Burton hit two home runs and drove in five as Box Elder swept Northridge.

Landon Golman batted 2 for 4 with a solo home run for Box Elder (11-6-1, 8-4 Region 5). Ryan Griffin went 2 for 4 and drove in one. Golman earned the win with two hits and four strikeouts in 2 1/3 innings of relief.

Jon Olson batted 2 for 3 with a home run, two RBIs and two runs scored for Northridge (4-14, 3-9). Boston Wright hit an RBI single.

GRANGER 7, ROY 0

WEST VALLEY CITY — Roy gave up four runs in the third inning in a shutout loss at Granger.

Wyatt Kline batted 2 for 3 for Roy (10-11, 9-6 Region 2). Tyler Clark added two hits.

SKY VIEW 11, BEAR RIVER 7

GARLAND — Sky View scored four runs in the seventh inning to break a 7-7 tie.

Easton Goodliffe batted 3 for 4 with two RBIs and a double, and Gehrig Marble hit 2 for 4 with a triple for Bear River (12-9, 8-7 Region 11).

NORTH SANPETE 3, MORGAN 1

MORGAN — Morgan Ryder Waldron hit an RBI single as Morgad fell to North Sanpete (2-16-1) in a 3A state tournament play-in game.

JJ Compton hit a double for Morgan. Camron Talbot hit a single and scored the Trojans’ lone run. Morgan ends the season with an 8-14 record.

ROY 3, TAYLORSVILLE 0

TAYLORSVILLE — Roy scored twice after halftime to beat Taylorsville and set up a winner-take-all Region 2 championship clash Tuesday against West.

Corben Schuffenhauer tallied a goal and two assists for Roy (11-2, 10-1 Region 2). Brody Nebeker and Aidan Hart each netted once. Luke Harrison had one assist and Colby Frokjer kept the clean sheet.

Both Roy and West went 10-1 in region games. West won the regular-season matchup in a 6-5 shootout after a 3-3 regulation draw.

DAVIS 3, WEBER 1

KAYSVILLE — Davis clinched at least a share of the Region 1 crown with a win at Weber.

Kyle Livermore, Rhett Neuenswander and Andrew Donigan each netted once for Davis (10-2, 9-2 Region 1). Bjorn Bergant, Talon Meyer and Jason Dunroe had one assist apiece. Davis can clinch the outright region title with a win Monday against Syracuse.

Tyson Beus scored for Weber (5-7, 5-6).

FREMONT 7, LAYTON 0

LAYTON — Tyler Ware had three goals and an assist as Fremont ran past Layton (4-10, 3-9 Region 1).

Dax Iverson earned the shutout in goal for Fremont (12-3, 8-3) along with his back line. Naime Odeh tallied two goals and two assists. Blaike Wayment added two goals and one assist.

BONNEVILLE 2, NORTHRIDGE 1 (OT)

LAYTON — Pierce Busby scored in the first period of extra time to give Bonneville a golden-goal win over Northridge (5-7, 3-6 Region 5).

Dennin Anderson tied the game 1-1 with a second-half goal for Bonneville (5-7, 5-4). Omar Piñon assisted the game-winner.

SYRACUSE 2, CLEARFIELD 0

CLEARFIELD — Jack Cook assisted two goals as Syracuse shut out Clearfield (1-14, 0-12 Region 1).

Easton Cragun and Ryken Hamblin scored for Syracuse (8-6, 6-5) and Ty Richardson kept the shutout in goal.

PLAIN CITY — Courtney Christiansen batted 3 for 4 with two home runs, a double and seven RBIs as Farmington won at Fremont.

Lola Ogzewalla batted 3 for 3 with three runs scored for Farmington (8-5, 7-4 Region 1). Elle Mortensen went 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI. Madison Kelker pitched a complete game with four strikeouts.

Audrey Cooper batted 2 for 3 with a double and one RBI for Fremont (12-7-1, 5-6). Ivee Johnsen went 2 for 4 and drove in two.

DAVIS 11, NORTHRIDGE 6

LAYTON — Laney Tuft batted 3 for 4 with a home run, three runs scored and five RBIs as Davis won at Northridge.

Lauryn Hall and Ellie Black each had three hits for Davis (11-7), with Black hitting a solo home run and Hall smacking a double. Abby Olsen added a double. Nina Attanasio pitched 4 2/3 innings with four strikeouts in the win.

Ellie Martinez hit a three-run home run for Northridge (7-12). Kaydence Chournos batted 2 for 4 with a solo home run. Delaney Robinson and Jennika Weaver each had two hits including a double.

BEAR RIVER 10, SKY VIEW 0

HYRUM — Bella Douglas hit a three-run home run and Kate Dahle hit a two-run dinger as Bear River shut out Sky View.

Dahle pitched a complete-game, two-hitter with eight strikeouts for Bear River (20-5, 8-2 Region 11). Emma Harrow batted 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI. Luci Roche added two hits.
