Prep roundup: 6A/5A soccer brackets set; Fremont baseball caps dominant run through Region 1

The next four teams are from Weber and Davis counties.
Region 1-champion Davis is the No. 2 seed, followed by No. 3 Fremont. No. 4 Farmington and Region 2-champion Roy at No. 5). All four of those teams have a first-round bye, culminating a fairly successful regular season for Northern Utah teams in general.
No. 12 Syracuse is the only Region 1 team with a first-round home game; the Titans will host No. 21 Layton with the winner playing at Roy in the second round.
Weber, last year’s No. 1 seed, is this year’s No. 19 seed and will head to Copper Hills in Friday’s first round. Clearfield finished at No. 26 and will miss the playoffs.
In 5A, the ultra-competitive Region 5 schedule yielded zero home playoff games for area teams and just two for Region 5 teams overall, similar to last year.
Box Elder is No. 17 and the Bees will head to Region 5 foe Viewmont in the first round. Bonneville is No. 20 and visits Provo, while No. 22 Northridge heads to No. 11 Bountiful, which won Region 5 outright.
Wasatch is the No. 1 seed in the 5A bracket.

BASEBALL
FREMONT 6, FARMINGTON 1
PLAIN CITY — Calvin Morrow homered, doubled and totaled three RBIs as Fremont downed Farmington to cap another run to the top in Region 1.
Bodee Goins went 2 for 4 and drove in two for Fremont (21-3, 17-1 Region 1). Anthony Marziale and Landon Salvesen each hit a double. Marziale pitched a complete game with four hits and four strikeouts. Fremont is 35-1 in the last two Region 1 seasons.
Mitch Nielsen batted 2 for 3 with a double for Farmington (8-17, 7-11). Beckham Smith and Jaxon Ball each had a hit.
DAVIS 15, SYRACUSE 11
KAYSVILLE — Davis jumped ahead 11-1, then held off a Syracuse charge against its bullpen to complete the regular season.
Tyson Elkins, Kaleb Weaver, Max Hunter, Wally Grant and Gavin Jacks each drove in two runs for Davis (10-15, 10-8 Region 1). Hunter and Pierson Flood tripled. Andrew Filimoehala struck out five and walked zero, allowing two earned runs, in four innings.
Tag Hamblin hit 3 for 4 with a home run and five RBIs to lead Syracuse (11-13, 9-9). Jake Hopkins doubled and drove in three. Andrew Sprague threw 3 1/3 innings of one-run relief to help the Titans get back in it.
CLEARFIELD 9, WEBER 4
PLEASANT VIEW — Clearfield scored five runs in the top of the first to take control in a win at Weber.
Peyton Kotter batted 3 for 3 with a double for Clearfield (4-21, 2-16 Region 1). Max Folkman went 2 for 4 with a double and two RBIs. Porter Benton and Cody Brockman each hit a double, with Brockman driving in two. Taven Swartz earned the win with five hits and three strikeouts in 4 2/3 innings.
Dominic Salerno batted 4 for 4 for Weber (6-17, 5-13). Dax Rhees drove in two.
BOUNTIFUL 15, BOX ELDER 10
BRIGHAM CITY — Hank Tippetts homered and drove in five runs, Kaison Averett hit three doubles and Bountiful won a sprint to the finish that saw the two teams combine for 15 runs in the final two innings.
Averett, Easton Aubuchon and Dallin Maxwell each had two RBIs for Bountiful (14-9, 9-6 Region 5).
Tommy Greer scored three runs and drove in three runs for Box Elder (12-8-1, 9-6). Mathew Petersen also had three RBIs. Tallin Chappell hit 3 for 4 with two RBIs and was one of five Bees to double.
VIEWMONT 19, BONNEVILLE 3
WASHINGTON TERRACE — Andrew DeGroot batted 3 for 3 with two RBIs and a double but Bonneville lost in five innings and was swept by Viewmont.
Parker Sorensen hit 2 for 3 with one RBI for Bonneville (2-19, 1-14 Region 5). Mason Wade and Kaycee Parkhurst each hit a double.
WOODS CROSS 7, NORTHRIDGE 4
WOODS CROSS — Kam Shirreffs batted 3 for 4 and drove in one for Northridge (4-17, 3-12) in a region loss to Woods Cross. Bentley Whitear hit 2 for 5 with a double and an RBI. Luke Porter added a double.
SOFTBALL
DAVIS 7, LAYTON 5
LAYTON — Laney Tuft batted 3 for 4 and scored three runs as Davis grabbed a region win at Layton.
Jewel Korth went 2 for 4 and drove in two for Davis (12-8, 6-6 Region 1). Serena Roth hit 2 for 4 with one RBI and pitched a complete game with five strikeouts.
Lauren Hansen hit a three-run home run for Layton (5-14, 3-9). Brenley Boydston, Riley Jaques and Tabatha Nunez each had two hits.
BOUNTIFUL 7, SYRACUSE 5
SYRACUSE — Syracuse scored four runs in the fifth but couldn’t complete the comeback in a non-region loss to Bountiful (19-3).
Grace Thomas hit a three-run home run for Syracuse (12-7). Jaidyn Franco hit a solo home run. Brielle Milius and Olivia Harker each hit a triple and a double.
