OGDEN – With 11-plus minutes remaining in their 3A quarterfinal, the Ogden High girls soccer team hung its eighth and final goal to defeat No. 7 Union on Saturday.

For the first time since the 2024 state title game, the No. 2 Tigers meet region foe Morgan in the playoffs. Ogden and No. 6 Morgan will meet in the state semifinals Thursday, Oct. 22, at Zions Bank Stadium in Herriman. A familiar rivalry returns to the state semifinal picture for the third time since 2021.

With an 8-0 mercy-rule finish, the Tigers (13-6) are semifinals-bound for an eighth consecutive season since 2018 following a Madison Beus hat trick. Union (10-8) exited the year without an answer in its quarterfinal loss as Ogden switched goalkeepers at the break.

Beus (3), Alondra Ayala (2), Gwenyth Aardema, Bryleigh Thomas and Paisley Pierce all found the net over the course of the afternoon. Third-year Ogden coach Alexis King agreed her team has met her expectations through the first two tests of the postseason.

“We’ve battled a lot of sickness this season, and it’s felt like almost every practice we have at least one or two people missing,” King said. “But even with all of that, I feel like we’ve tried our best to remain consistent and play at a high level every day in practice, and I feel like that shows in our game; we perform every year while trying to keep that high level of play.”

Ogden, back in its element with the semifinal round next week, is searching for an eighth consecutive state title game appearance. King and the Tigers enter the picture as the defending 3A champions with a target on their back now six region titles deep since 2019.

Morgan rallies to reach 3A semifinals

Rallying from a 1-0 halftime deficit, No. 6 Morgan emerged victorious 3-1 at No. 3 Carbon on Saturday to keep its postseason dreams alive next week in Herriman.

Amy Thomas (assisted by Lily Evans), Kendall Peterson (assisted by Monea Whimpey), and Saige Jones (assisted by Thomas) delivered the second-half comeback as the Trojans (11-6) delivered a must-have road win.

Morgan and Ogden are slated for an 11:30 a.m. kick Thursday at Zions Bank Stadium.

St. Joseph stumbles against rival

On the road in the 2A quarterfinals, No. 8 St. Joseph allowed seven goals to top seed Maeser Prep on Saturday in Lindon, as the Jayhawks wrapped their regular season at 9-9 overall.

St. Joseph, winning a second-round home berth vs. No. 9 San Juan, saw a five-game winning streak come to an end against a Lions program that posted a 3-0 region shutout against the Jayhawks last month.
