Roy High has picked its new boys basketball head coach and Farmington has its new girls basketball head coach.

Roy announced Ryan Hannah as its new boys head coach on Wednesday, according to school athletic director Mike Puzey.

Farmington picked Tara Ferrin as its new girls basketball coach, according to school athletic director Kasey Walkenhurst.

Hannah is in his first year teaching at Roy and assisted the past basketball season with Scott Hunt, who left to take the head boys basketball job at Morgan earlier this spring.

Hannah, who also coaches football at Roy after previously teaching and coaching at Bear River High, will keep Brock Randall as an assistant coach, according to Puzey.

Roy is moving to 5A Region 5 this coming school year after competing in 6A Region 2 the previous two school years. The Royals went 15-10 last season and advanced to the second round of the 6A state tournament.

Ferrin currently teaches at Layton High, her alma mater and where she’s currently the girls soccer head coach.

Ferrin played college basketball at what was then Utah Valley State College out of high school before transferring to Weber State to play for the university’s first-ever Division I women’s soccer team.

Ferrin will teach this upcoming school year at Layton before moving over to Farmington, according to Walkenhurst.

She’ll replace Van Price as Farmington’s girls basketball coach. Farmington went 12-11 this past season and advanced to the second round of the 6A state playoffs.

Price retired at the end of the 2022-23 season as the state’s all-time girls basketball coaching wins leader following a 37-year coaching career with five seasons as the Phoenix’s head coach and 30 years as Layton High’s head girls coach before that.
